Problem is i'm not at work now until next week and haven't got the link from the email, forgot to retrive it!

You could always email SFF - help@seefilmfirst.com tell them what has happened and provide all your details including your works email but make sure you ask them to resend your ticket to your personal email account.

Why don't you open a web based account that you can access from work and home? Something like googlemail would be perfect.

    Dear Reverbe,

Codes for cinema previews are posted on the MSE thread, even for VIP seefilmfirst codes that some people have to pay for.

Why have you not complained about any of these?

If there is something you are unhappy about the set-up of the Cinema Code thread, then I'm afraid it is not me you need to address.

The code has been posted on several different websites now. Are you going to complain to every single one of them?

Perhaps you didn't notice, but someone else posted the code. Have you asked them why they posted the code?

I also do not appreciate you calling my fellow MSE'rs vultures.

    Sincerely,

    Tibbs.

    [Edit to add additional information]:

This information was actually derived directly from the Marie Claire website. Once it is available there, the information enters the public domain. So, this isn't even an MSE problem. It is due to the fact that there is no restriction on the flow of information when something is posted on the Internet.

I have not complained about any of the other films as most of the films that have free tickets are not anything I would wish to see even free.

Tibbs there was no code on Marie Claire when you posted. The mag only came out yesterday and you told people about it and said that you would posts the code. Genuine fans of the book and film and purchasers of the magazine would actually like to take up the offer when they have bought both book several years ago and magazine and not have the usual people swoop on here for anything that is free.I have also been a fan of Julia Child since as a child I used to watch her cooking shows on American forces tv when I lived in Berlin.Normally these free films are utter dross such as the Hangover and that Ghost thing with Ricky Gervais and Bandslam with nobody well known in it. When there is tickets for quality films such as Burn After Reading and Julie & Julia they are a godsend to those of us who love cinema and the artists involved.

What also gets my goat is people who swoop on anything free and then walk out of the film as it is not what they expected when some people would kill for free tickets. In the last week both Coco Before Chanel and the one I attended Rumba had people who walked out after 10 minutes or so when they realised it was subtitled or contained little dialogue. I have only attended 2 free films but both of them were full of people walking out or coming in late and being noisy and disruptive because their attitude is well its only free...There have also been empty seats at the 2 screenings I have managed to attend , I presume the tickets have been taken for filled screenings and not then attended which could be filled by people who genuinely have a strong desire to see said film.

As expected the only local showing of this film has been already filled with freebie hunters seconds later. I am not someone who just swoops on things cos they are free but who would be grateful if I could get to see films I have been dying to see since I knew they were being made and that otherwise I would not be able to afford to see. Some people on this site proudly boast of going to see several films a week free and some even have figures in their sig files as if it was some kind of contest. It would be nice if some of these would leave some tickets for other people to have a rare treat once a year or so.

Also nice to see you cut and paste a Private message on a forum Tibbs...

I will reiterate what I have already said:

It is due to the fact that there is no restriction on the flow of information when something is posted on the Internet.

I said I would post the code when available freely on a public access website. Do you know how many more people can get access to this.

You posted your own reply on the Cinema Code thread. Have a look yourself. I copied and pasted from there. Someone deleted your original. I did not receive an PM.

  • Let's get back into the domain of reality Reverbe i think that you are maybe a little bit disgruntled because maybe you have missed out on a few screenings that you would have liked to have seen, why have you even signed up to a site if you deem it's members vultures aren't you being a tad hypocritical. A large proportion of the members on here are genuine cinema lovers and appreciate all genres of cinema i being one of them, film preview companies cannot guarantee that all of the people that have applied for the tickets are going to show up for the film unless they drag them kicking and screaming into the cinema, you sometimes find that after the tickets have been issued something has inadvertently scuppered your plans maybe you have to work late and can't get to the screening or mabe you are sick the last thing on your mind is watching a film. You also can't always judge if someone is a genuine lover of film or not how do i know that you appreciate a film more than me, well i don't because i don't know you from Adam, the same as i wouldn't care if you managed to get tickets for a million films as opposed to one film. There seems to be an inverted sense of snobbery in what you have said.

Tibbs I sent you a pm. The post on the board was deleted within seconds of posting it by myself so if you cut and pasted it from there then you must have saved it to add to a post later as it was on the board for a matter of seconds.

Lifeinwales of the 2 screeings I have attended they have both been full of kids who walked out when they found out the film was not to their taste.I have even heard people mutter when they walked out well it was free so I applied. They hadnt even bothered to find out if they would be interested before taking up the tickets that could have been used by someone who would have appreciated the film.

Yes I admit I am rather gutted here. I have been a big fan of Ms Child most of my life, adore cooking, she is one of my culinary heroes. I also bought the book on its first release and have read it several times and have been dying to watch the film since I heard of it prior to it even shooting.I know that there will be many here who will find it boring and walk out as it is not the usual sex comedy fodder often available on freebies. You can generally tell the quality of the film by the number of codes released for it. My case in point would be The Hangover. - even the tv ads for this were very cleverly edited not to show much of the actual film.

The screenings I was lucky enough to get tickets for were The Rocker last year which was mostly empty and Rumba where approx 1/3 of the audience walked out.In both of these the audience was rowdy and often talked on their mobiles during, presumably they thought nobody would be bothered as the film was for free.

I think I have just begun to get really annoyed by people walking out of films or nonattending when a lot of people, not just myself miss out on films they are dying to see.I have encountered more and more of these tales lately on the net by others even for flm I do not wish to see myself. To think of people missing out due to the actions of the ungrateful and unappreciative is something that upsets me in all walks of life.

Perhaps I am just a responsible person who can commit to things and who has the rest of the week to make plans which would not include the day of the screening.I must be rare. Maybe there could be some allowance for empty seats so that others who have missed out to people who will not be attending could gain the benefit. I will be emailing the freebie companies to suggest this later today.

  • i have been to many of these screenings over the last few years and have to say that i have found that the people that go to them very polite, not once have i been to one that i have had to complain about noise or mobile phones, i find that the worst screenings that you go to are the ones that you have to pay and thats why i go these free screenings you generally have a member of staff or the last two that i have been to security guards checking in on the screenin making it a nice experience. Of course you have late comers etc but if you go to screenigs in the odeon they generally have a cut off point. The last 2 films that i have paid for Night at the museum 2 and my sisters keeper were ruined by constant noise and annoyance, the people who were with me actually remarked that if it had been a free screenig we wouldn't have had any of that rubbish, we felt that we had wasted our money as well and came out quite annoyed with the whole experience, also you find that the certificate on a film affects the audience who are wathcing it, if you go to a pg, 12a etc you are bound to have lots of annoying little kids causing mayhem, if you go to a 15 or 18 certificate you will get people who just want to watch the film in peace.

Reverbe - MC have put this information (which I've managed to find on their website in under 30 secs despite having never set foot on there before). The information is out there, on MCs website freely open to anyone and, I imagine, on many other sites including this one. That is the power of the internet. MC could have restricted entry to people with copies of the appropriate page of their magazine (like the times does for its codes) but they chose not to. They have only issued ~1000 seats -far, far, far fewer numbers than their number of readers so the chances were very, very slim that you would get a ticket even if they had restricted it. Why should people who want to see a film who's free tickets are readily available to all NOT apply for them if they wish to? You seen to be a bit bitter about this and I cannot understand why to be honest.

I have been to quite a few free previews over the last ~7 months and have never seen vast amounts of people leave a cinema during a film nor people entering the cinema later than ~5 mins into the cinema. The screenings I have been to have always been 95% or more full. The only time I have ever seen people walk out (~5, about an hr or so in) was during the Hangover at a particularly stupid, somewhat offensive point in a poor film. I would have walked out too if my friend had not been enjoying the film. I find free screenings are far quiter (in terms of talking /rustling /movements etc and mobiles have not gone off once) than paid for screenings and far more pleasant! I have seen films I would not have seen otherwise (I'm on a budget) and discovered gems such as Milk that would have completely passed me by otherwise. As it turned out it was one of the best films I have ever seen and I certainly talked to many other people about it which is the whole reason the free screenings happening at all. Film distributers/film companies want to get people talking about upcoming film releases, to create a buzz about them or to gauge reactions to more obscure films before they go on widespread/limited release. If the codes are in a paper or a magazine they are there soley to get people reading/buying or at least thinking more positively about the paper/mag and may choose the mag/paper over others in the future. They are certainly not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts!

This isn't the first time you have tried to start flame wars over promotions. Perhaps you should listen to the advice of others.

There has no wrongdoing on the Cinema thread. No MSE, nor MC laws have been broken.

We all love cinema. Full stop. End of conversation. No further comment will be made.

do you think it'll be a problem using em

EDIT: does that mean that the emails can be printed more than once?
