Unless they are going to redirect you to a different number which will be 0845!

As pointed out that is wrong, if you dial an 020 number, it doesn't matter where you are redirected to, whether it's 0845, 0870, 090x a mobile you will only pay the cost of the call to the 020 number.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)

I think they meant being verbally redirected to redial the 0845 number (A&L)

Thanks for this. Just called a 0870 number today and kept hanging on over 5 mins. before I hung up.

It doesn't actually become free until 16 January.
  • This change does not make 0845 and 0870 numbers free - it just makes them inclusive to your BT call package.

If, for example, you are on the BT Option 1 package you will still have to pay for these calls on Weekdays.

I know that this satisifies the biggest gripe about 0845 & 0870 (i.e. that if you knew the geographic translation you could make the call within the inclusive calls in your package).

HOWEVER, and here is the bit BT are not trumpeting.....

A lot of companies have pre-empted this change and have moved to 0844 and 0871 numbers which will continue to be outside call packages, and chargeable at up to 10p per minute.

So in fact a lot of this announcement is spin. Customers will continue to pay over the odds to call many companies who are loathe to give up the income they make from 'revenue sharing'.
