Unless they are going to redirect you to a different number which will be 0845!
Sorry but that is wrong!! if you get re-directed through a switchboard you are still on the number you dialled so you do not pay 08 rates.
SAYNOTO0870 is still a good way to avoid most which is covered on this site in detail.0 -
Thanks for this. Just called a 0870 number today and kept hanging on over 5 mins. before I hung up.0

All 0845 numbers are linked to a regular UK landline number, this is the number they give to you when you are calling from abroad, as 0845 doesnt work from abroad. By calling the "abroad" number, you should bypass the usual 0845 charges and pay regular landline fees instead, which is you call from a mobile, usually come out of your free minutes. So from now on, ask for number to call from abroad!
Added: You don't get charged for being diverted to the switch board as the number you dialled originally IS the switchboard's number. Its the 0845 number that gets diverted to the landline.0 -

BT to make 0870 and 0845 numbers free
See Below

They are not free! They are included in certain phone packages and as you pay for these by your line rental and/or an extra charge for the package they are "inclusive" but certainly not free.
Can you really see BT giving anything away?Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Is it still possible to earn revenue on 0870 numbers or has this been stopped yet?0
