Having read 2 Atkins books I find it very frustrating that some of the ingredients are not easy to get or are awfully expensive so I thought it a good idea to start this thread for some homemade Atkins/low carb recipes. The easier the better!

Noooooo - Don't do it!
I did Atkins successfully 2 years ago and am now the proud ower of a gallbladder stuffed with stones!!!!
I am now losing weight prior to my operation and have just lost ½ stone, purely going down the lowfat and eating sensibly route - The books suck you in and you start to believe the rubbish he spouts - the fact is you lose weight becuase protein fills you up more so you eat less in the long run, but you also eat more fat.
I was a real Atkins disciple and am now regretting it - esp at night when I get the 'pain' under my ribs!!Noli nothis permittere te terere

I am still learning with my slow cooker and I havent got a lot of experience using it so I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question but are you saying that if you put chicken breasts and a shop bought sauce in a slow cooker at this tme of night they will not be overdone by lunchtime tomorrow?0

Ive put it on low and it will be ok for noon tomorrow. I like it tender and well done but if you dont want to leave it on for so long, you could set it on a timer to come on in the night. If I think its well cooked when I get up(about 9 am) I will switch it off and re-cook it(not warm it up) in the microwve when I want to eat.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
I thought the atkins was a case of eating as much meat and crap you can take without whats good for you!If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.0

not wanting to take over this thread but atkins is not jus eating meat and crap....basically you eat protein with lots of veg and/or salad.. yes you are allowed fats but good ones.. udont eat proceesed foods and udont eat sugar, i cant see whats wrong with that . i have lost a huge amount doing atkins and i feel better then i have for years
anyways aside from that angela u can get hold of almond flour very easily and instead of using cook in saucs youj can just use cream.. we cook chicken with mushrroms and some leeks, then add some cream to warm 5mins before eating.. its like a cook in sauce but without the carbs and rubbish and tastes scrummy
also if theres some ingredient u really cant get u could order it online, i have some sites if you are really stuck, pm me if interested
good luck xxWhen you know better you do better0 -
Hmmm.... Robert Atkins did himself die from a heart attack.... it's not a great advert for the diet! I think if you want to crash diet, then atkins seems to give huge weight loss fast (so go to the gym or you won't tighten up the loose skin and it's not an attractive look!), but I think I diet completely free of carbs in the long term is a bad plan. All depends on your lifestyle - you can't imagine athletes not eating lots of pasta, but my walk to the bus stop each day doesn't require much energy!
Quinoa (pronounced key-wha) is a lower carb alternative that you can get in health food shops, tastes ok (not amazing but ok!) and is very good for you. I don't know whether the atkins diet would approve of it, but you can use it when you would use rice or pasta normally and may help!:happyhear0 -
atkins himself had an accident which led to a heart attack and the atkins diet is not COMPLETELY free from carbs it is simply lower carbs
it is not a crash diet and I i DO go to the gym (which is advocated in the book)and no i dont have loose skin thankyou

it wasn't meant personally to you - i've just seen some nasty results on my friends who dropped weight drammatically and ended up looking worse for it because they didn't do any exercise... was only trying to give a helpful suggestion! you don't have to be quite so defensive!:happyhear0 -
i wasnt being defensive i was jus trying to explain some errors... and i couldnt agree more about people who lose weight by crashing (very unhealthy) and hence all the loose skin .. luckily not something i suffer from despite having lost over 7 stone in the last few years
anyway all that aside this is not what the OP wished for so lets concentrate on helping her find the things she needs .... which reminds me many things that are useful for cooking with atkins can be found in the health food shops
i do hope that is some help to the OPWhen you know better you do better0
