go the host forums, I'm sure they will fix it for you.

Can't you just create the folder again? Then stick your site within it.

i think if you enter the cpanel, then look under the icon "file manager" at the root, where all the folders are located, just click new folder, then rename public_html. i think it'll automatically fill the folder with cgi-bin and all the other bits and pieces.

if that doesnt work, just post a message under their forum. the administrator will usually help out then.

I know this isn't tottally relevant but I haven't got a cluuueee how to get my site up on jamroll thingy. I've got a domain, registered with them and i can access the cPanel but how do I get, say a htm file that I made on Microsoft FrontPage onto my site? Do I just copy into public_html folder? I tried that but it didn't work

I second, third or fourth Jamroll, not sure where we got to!! I have a domain name from lycos, I paid £4.95 for it and get my hosting free from Jamroll... If you are having problems then post on the forums as they are really helpful and very likely to be able to help you sort out your problem.

If you are getting stuck with the cPanel then you need to download something called a FTP program, without the technical jargon to tell you the proper terms of what it does it basically opens a 'MS windows' style window so that you can upload and download your files much easier... I downloaded a free trial of a program called FlashFXP and finished the trial and now have the full version! (free 30 day trial here) You will need to enter some setting such as IP addresses and stuff if I remember rightly but I muddled through it with the help of the Jamroll forums and I'm not overly techie...??

  • hi yeah. another program that i personally use is smartftp. you can download it for free and even use it after the trial period. its good because you can edit everything in your account instantly. you can also set accessibility options with a click.

anyways, regarding free webhosts, does anyone have experience with any others?

I know it's not free, but if you signup for dreamhost.com on their crazy insane domain for 1 year ($119) you get a $99 discount using 'DISCOUNTED'

It's a referal code from my panel - but I don't get any cash from you or anything (It's a 100% commission back to you code)

Sometimes they do special codes that can reduce it by $110 - so keep an eye out.

currently you get 2TB (yes, that's about 2000GB) bandwidth per mont and 20GB HD space. you also get a free domain name (.com) and can host unlimited domain names there just by redirecting your DNS (not transferring)

They're great - all my sites are hosted off them! (http://www.neobard.info is my homesite)

Thanks worked out $22.95 for a years worth of hosting ;) Lets hope they are still around in a years time.
I have finally acknowledged my debt.....

On the Lycos page, in the list of what's included when you purchase a Domain name, it includes....

    web space - 5 MB with a POP3

Does this mean that if your website will be less than 5MB you don't need to buy hosting? I want to buy a domain, but don't want to buy hosting as well and I'd only need probably 2MB maximum, most likely less than 1MB.

    Thanks.

Yes you can do that. All you need to do is point your newly purchased domain at the lycos website.

Jamroll is there if you ever need more than 5MB :)
