OFSTED are interested if it is for more than 2 hours per day for 'reward'. 'Reward' can be money, groceries, a box of chocolates etc. As you are only looking for an hour and a half, I can't see that they would be interested. I do know of someone who helped a friend for a short period and did get 'shopped' to OFSTED who then investigated them.
PS I charge £3.3 per hour as a registered c/minder.
  • I pay £8 for after school care if that helps?

so i shall look at employing either grandparent as a nanny, and run it through my small business books. i am thinking £50 per week and car provided.
I'm now a bit confused: does that mean you are self-employed or otherwise working for yourself? If you are, you might want to run this scenario on the Small Biz board because I don't know in what circumstances you can claim for childcare expenses.

Also make sure the car insurance fully covers the scenario where you are paying someone to care for your child, which includes driving the child around.

OP as its care in your home you won't have to worry

do what you like, pay what you like :D
  • OP £50 a week sounds OK. The afterschool club at my daughter's school is £10 for 3:15 until 6 per child.

I'm still not sure what childcare expenses you can put through your business books, and would suggest you check with your accountant and / or on the Small Biz board.

these people who are reported and investigated for taking money for childcare - are they on means tested benefits and should be declaring the income? Just wondered, somebody I know in the playground used to have her neices after school and was 'grassed up' for it. The person was on benefits at the time, and shouldn't been earning money on the side, but the truth is she was only being paid enough to cover the cost of feeding the children - I wouldn't expect somebody to feed my 2 children 5 times a week out of their own pocket, family or not!

Anyway, to answer your question we don't have clubs in the actual schools but the day nurseries that provide after school care charge between £6-8 per child, for any time up to 6pm. That includes being picked up, and a light 'tea' (snack really).

Understood. My mind sometimes goes off at tangents, and I always think it's best to declare the full range of my thoughts!
