next doors dogs attacking

The fact that the dogs attacked your pup is bad enough ~ as this could/will have a long term effect on your pup. I would try and make sure he/she was still getting lots of chances to meet other dogs who are friendly and it doesn't put him off all dogs and become aggressive as he/she thinks thats how you need to be.
The main thing that got my attention was one of these dogs got into your garden then into your house and attacked you is that correct???
what did you do about it at the time did you contact police/dog warden/ council and if so what happened about it?0 -
Shame that wasnt around last Oct when i got attcked by my neighbours dog, my solocitor said that an old english pit bull isn't one of the dangerous dogs, but...... doesnt mean to say this won't go to court, when the police finally arrest him
Control - Dangerous Dogs Act 1991
The main aim is to stamp out specific breeds of dog which have been bred for fighting. In this respect the Act applies to the Pit Bull Terrier , Japanese Tosa , Dogo Argintino, or Fila Braziliero. But it also allows for the same penalties to be applied to any dog proved, in court, to be a danger. This will mean a mandatory destruction of the dog and possibly six months in prison and/or a level 5 fine (at present £5,000) for the owner.
Of cause, all could be prevented by making it compulsary for all dogs to be kept on a leash in a public place.
I'd be happy to comply.
ETA. Sorry Paparika, did you mean the neighbours dog bit you in the street or her home?0 -

what do you think that would achieve?0 -

A lot of trainers were unsure how Staffies managed to escape being added to that banned list as they too were bred for fighting. I guess an MP or two must have had staffies.Of cause, all could be prevented by making it compulsary for all dogs to be kept on a leash in a public place.

I think the DDA is being replaced by the Dogs Control Bill that I mentioned above. In others words, the govrnment are going to ban the (bad) deed and not the breed (of dog).
The really good bit about the Dog Control Bill is that it will also incude dogs that behave in an agressise way to other animals, regardless of how small the dog is. No more excuses of "he's only little".
The good dog owners will be fine, while those who have allowed their dogs to be agressive to other animals will be punished, regardless of what breed or mixed breed they are. If you have one of the breeds of dogs that tends to be aggressive to other animals (that covers a lot of the terrier and terrier X breeds) then you are going to have to make sure your dog behaves or muzzle and keep it on a lead
to avoid falling foul of the new law.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

If a person has been attacked by a dog, the police can prosecute. It doesn't matter if the dog is listed as a dangerous dog or not. The police can charge the owner for having a dog dangerously out of control in a public place causing injury.
In fact, there shouldn't be any of those 4 banned breeds in the country now as they should have all died out. That said, I did see a pitbull last summer going at a poor old Chow! The pitbull had an equally stroppy owner who looked a bit shocked when he realised I knew what breed of dog he had.
The DDA has always applied to all dogs, not just the 4 banned breeds. One of the first dogs charged under the Dangerous Dog Act was a Pekingese.RENTING? I did c+p that bit too MissMoneypenny, easily missed I admit.
"But it also allows for the same penalties to be applied to any dog proved, in court, to be a danger. "
Which is why I posted it for Paparika. Seems her solicitor doesn't realise that is the case.
Can't come soon enough imo.0 -

Keeping one of my dogs on a lead has the opposite effect, she feels threatened and barks and growls when she see's other dogs. If she's off the lead she just ignores them and happily goes on her way!0 -
It isn't a pit bull its and old English pit bull, solicitor pulled the whole dangerous dog act paperwork off and showed me.
But it will still go to court when the powers that be pull their fingers out etc etc.
OP i feel for you i really do, time to put your foot down and demand the HA do something, the dog warden would be able to help surely, not to mention the police, sounds like they can't control the animals they have.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -

The new Dog Control Bill is going through parliament. A lot of owners get away with having a dog that show aggressive tendencies because their dogs have never bitten a person and have just shown aggression towards other animals. Finally, the government are going to do something about these dogs that show aggression to other animals or attack other animals.
2 Control of Dogs
No person shall :-
(a) allow a dog for which they are responsible to be aggressive or dangerously out of control, in either a public or private place.
(e) keep a dog that has attacked a person or other animal
Failure to comply can can result in:-
A control order on the person.
A ban on the person keeping dogs.
Removing custody of the dog.
Destruction order
Fine
Imprisonment.

Get these dogs reported to the RSPCA or the police.
But how can they jump over an 8foot fence anyway??0
