A staffie just killed an old ladies elderly small dog, in our local park.
The new Dog Control Bill is going through parliament. A lot of owners get away with having a dog that show aggressive tendencies because their dogs have never bitten a person and have just shown aggression towards other animals. Finally, the government are going to do something about these dogs that show aggression to other animals or attack other animals.
2 Control of Dogs
No person shall :-
(a) allow a dog for which they are responsible to be aggressive or dangerously out of control, in either a public or private place.
(e) keep a dog that has attacked a person or other animal
Failure to comply can can result in:-
A control order on the person.
A ban on the person keeping dogs.
Removing custody of the dog.
Destruction order
Fine
Imprisonment.

Both my neighbours have dogs, if one of them bit me i would go directly to the police, 3 dogs will exhibit pack mentality unless properly controlled(which they are not), how will you feel if next time they savage a baby or child?
dog aggressive towards other dogs does not necessairly mean that he or she will be aggressive towards a human.0 -
these dogs need to be reported, get onto your council/dog warden
if you felt that you were going to be attacked then tell them that.
if you would like more info, I can give you some details of a person who is DDA expert0 -
Is it ok then for a dog to attack your own precious pet?Kerriebaby wrote: »dog aggressive towards other dogs does not necessairly mean that he or she will be aggressive towards a human.0 -
did I say that it was okay for a dog to attack another???
I simply said that if a dog is dog aggressive ( as many Staffs are, its what they were bred to do ) it doesnt mean that they are going to be human aggressive.
There are laws in place to protect dogs and humans from dog attacks. Its something I have used many times on a day to day basis ( im a dog walker )0 -
There is no law in place to protect a person from being attacked, only the handler could prevent that by controlling the dog. The law is in place to allow the handler to be punished if the dog bites.Kerriebaby wrote: »did I say that it was okay for a dog to attack another???

There is no law, at present, but soon hopefully as pointed out by MissMoneypenny above, to punish those who fail too prevent a dog from attacking another.
That should be good news for you if the bill is passed, aggresive dogs must be a nightmare in your job, not one I'd be brave enough to do.0 -
If a dog attacks another or while attacking your dog, you feel threatened, then it is covered by the current DDA, and the local dog warden should intervene
Yes the handler should be able to control the dog, but lets face it, for all us responsible dog owners/walkers, there will always be muppets around!
FWIW in my job I encounter many breeds / types and ages...I have been bitten 3 x once by a weimie, once by a labrador and once by a CKCS...yet of all the dogs I walk my Dutch Shepherd girlie gets the widest birth...she hasnt ever bitten man nor beast0 -

Shame that wasnt around last Oct when i got attcked by my neighbours dog, my solocitor said that an old english pit bull isn't one of the dangerous dogs, but...... doesnt mean to say this won't go to court, when the police finally arrest himLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
your neighbours have FIVE kids and THREE (used to be 7) dogs? how big is their house? sound like complete scratters to me...
are they council tenants? is there nothing in the tenancy agreement about the amount of pets they are allowed to keep?
i would go back to the the lazy housing officer - believe, most of them want a quiet life and will ignore a problem for as long as they can - and TELL her that the problem can not be resolved and it is her/the council's duty to look into this problem. if she doesn;t take responsibility for this then you will go to Citizen Advice bureau and advise your local MP of the problem too. oh, and ask for her manager's contact details too. what a lazy !!!!!!0
