Sorry for the simple question, I'm a bit thick when it comes to technology :o

This seems to be what I need but just to check, am I right to assume that this will replace my existing freeview box - which is always freezing - and that I don't need a separate freeview box to run alongside it?

I know that I can't watch one channel and record another but this doesn't bother me.

    Thanks in advance

    Matthew

    1, Yes
    2, Yes

You can still watch any channel on your normal TV whilst recording on the recorder.

"Thanks in advance" Thanks for your Thanx.
    Nice to save.

Anyone know anything about this crew?

Froogle has many around or slighlty lower than these prices.

    Fore example: http://www.ajelectronics.co.uk/ViewProdDetails.asp?Prod_code=DMR-ES20

Price: £157.95 although currently out of sotck.

This is a pucka operation from whom I have bought several times (I have no other connection) and you can buy in person if you can get into Central London.

Also Richer sounds have it at £159.95 or multi-region for £10 more

I paid under £140 for this machne from currys on-line as egg were doing a 10% instant cashback at the end of December.

A superb machine, puts my old Liteon 5005 to shame. What a crap tuner that had, screen covered in white lines when watching television, unless I banged the top of the machine. The lines would appear again after a few minutes. (And they appear on any recordings made too.) It has stopped recognising (unfinalised) +R and -R and only accepts +RW and -RW now. It is upstairs as a spare player and VHS converter. Too unreliable for anything else.

Hi- I have a toshiba tv with built in freeview. This has been a total pain as it takes 3 minutes to warm up.Also we tried to get a compatible vhs machine ( a few years ago ) but nothing would record freeview. The tv is good otherwise.
However, I've got used to it and you can switch to ATV if you want. My question is- would this panasonic work with my digital tv? Or would I have to do something complicated?
I've enjoyed reading the thread and feel a lot better informed- thanks to everyone who has posted.

You should only have to plug the Panasonic into the Toshiba via Scart. If your TV can input RGB then you can turn the RGB on, on the TV & the DVD recorder for a better picture. The DVD Recorder has it's own very easy to use Freeview tuner. The Panasonic sets itself up, it's just so easy.

Just received my ES20 today from

    http://ws1.123electricals4me.co.uk/productlist.php?cda=productlist&sgroup=DVDRECORDER

They have the Region 2 for £149.99 (was £155 earlier this week) and the multiregion for £159.29. Excellent service (check reviews on Pricerunner). I got them to throw in a 5 pack of DVD-RAM to price match https://www.prcdirect.co.uk on the multiregion. Can throughly recommend them!

EDIT : Typical. HotDealsUK have just pointed out that this model is £129.95 at Richer Sounds Instore only!!!! I will just have to convince myself that my local store would not have had any in stock. It says - stocks erratic.
