I have a Toshiba RD-XS34 160 GB HD that I use at work and it's agreat machine. The hard drive editing is easy once you've learnt the buttons and it burns to DVDR faultlessly. The only annoying thing is the long bootup time and if you put a dodgy disc in, it can sitting on 'loading' for ages before it lets you eject it.
I'd like to know where it's available at £160 but I doubt we'll find out...BE NICE - IT'S FREE!0 -
Probably a staff discount"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

there is no big mystery regarding the price..£160.Originally..bought an ealier model which kept breaking down..spent more time in the workshop then at home!Hence manager decided to give me an upgrade for the additional price...
However, back to my earlier question... (timmo44)..what is your opinion?
This recorder is also lacking digital tuner.I am only thinking ahead.0 -
There's no doubt a hard drive is useful but given the choice of hard drive or Freeview (especially on a DVD-RAM recorder) I'd go for, & did, buy the Freeview. No mucking about programming anything on freeview, main channels E4, ITV 2/3 radio etc, etc. Another bonus is most programmes are automatically in widescreen on freeview. Now a hard drive,Freeview, twin tuner Panasonic or other TOP make..................Nice to save.0

Do these recorders have a cooling fan running ?
If so are there any recorders without internal fans?

Thanks comperking, I got 5% off with your TEACH5PCT code also some rebate with linemypocket. Bought a Liteon 5006 at Christmas and delighted with record quality but not having a built in digital receiver is a pain so the Panasonic will fill this gap and the Liteon can be used as a 2nd machine.... GR8 value 4 money when 24 years ago I paid £640 for a JVC VCR!!!0

Sorry for the simple question, I'm a bit thick when it comes to technology
This seems to be what I need but just to check, am I right to assume that this will replace my existing freeview box - which is always freezing - and that I don't need a separate freeview box to run alongside it?
I know that I can't watch one channel and record another but this doesn't bother me.
Thanks in advance
