They b****y didn't with me. Not impressed at all by the staff at the Preston branch. Interesting about the John Lewis price match as I think they give a 2 year guarantee with theirs.0 -
svijay, you're lucky, I tried John Lewis (Glasgow) to price match Richer Sounds deal but they refused, reason being Richer Sounds (Glasgow Branch) are out of stock. In many cases its your luck or bad luck who you deal with in customer service situations. I got one who was efficient and took the bother to phone Richer Sounds when I showed her a printout of Richer Sounds price of £139 in store price but as Panasonic was out of stock, no price match. Good on you, happy to know you got your deal.0

Hi,
After posting in the main techy forum a few kind people have replied and also pointed this thread out to me.
I have a lot of sony camcorder 8mm tape footage of my late Mother and uncle and want to get it onto dvd. Been told this is by far the easiest way and this recorder is good, with inbuilt editing facilities. Probably what I'm aiming at is , just to hook the camcorder up to the dvd, transfer the 8mm footage, do the editing part then play in ordinary dvd player. I have seen a few at tesco from £85 but i suppose I only get basic for that.

They look like the versions of the DVB standards to which it complies.
I ordered one of these for my father. Have been helping him set it up over the phone. Sounds very nifty - I'm quite jealous! Now I just have to get him a DVD-RAM disc or two, with cartridges, as recommended here. Instruction manual: http://www.panasonic.co.uk/customer-Support/download-centre.asp?did=141035&fmt=pdf (tick the "accept" box).Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
A nice touch it has is a programmable remote control which operates the basic functions of most manufacturers' TV sets, so no need to juggle two boxes. It also allows you to enter your name, house number and postcode, protected by PIN, which I presume it displays after power is cut, to enable it to be reunited with its owner. The downside of that is you have to leave it on standby constantly, even if you have no timer recordings are programmed.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

I bought this one from amazon, but its not very good if you have a toshiba tv, i've emailed panasonic for the code to enable the remote to control volume etc.. and they said if its not in the manual you cant do it.0

I didn't presume this. I have had the machine switched off and I can confirm this is not the case. I thought you could enter your house number and postcode so that if a thief was caught with your goods you could prove they are yours as your postcode would be stored on the machine.
Prices of these machines seem to be going up rather than down as stocks run out prior to the launch of the new Panasonics (the new equivalent-ish model will be around £250)0
