Price of petrol and diesel
This is a constant source of annoyance to me.
When i go into a supermarket to buy goods i get charged the price you see on the item or shelf ticket.
The price you pay is in whole pennies not parts of.
When you go to a forecourt shop they charge you for goods and services in whole pennies.
When you buy petrol or diesel from the same shop you are not charged in the same manner.
Its displayed like this 109.9ppl but when you take even the minimum delivery its not charged as such because they cant charge you in parts of a penny
minimum delivery is always 2L which should cost you 219.8 but its rounded up by the garage to 220.0 effectively robbing you of .2p
Now i understand most people dont take 2L but the principal is the same when you scale it up. The only time the numbers add up is on every 10L
Is this actually legally ok?

If you have ever bought fuel even once in your life you would have seen the price advertised. Every forecourt displays the prices like this not just one or 2!!
This is not about getting any sort of life this is about being ripped off, but you seem to be missing that DOH!!:mad:0 -

Exactly my point, so what are you going to do about it?
:rotfl:
Yes it's legal, you don't have to buy from them! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

You have no option if you want fuel for your car...
Unless your condoning other more nefarious ways of getting fuel you have to pay a price that is inflated above the advertised price.
Thats the real rip off on fuel, even more so than the taxes paid on it.
At least the taxes are in pence not parts of a pence.
I have contacted trading standards and await their reply. They will look into it and see what to do if anything.
Its a hidden extra tax on every single litre of fuel bought0 -
You could calculate an amount of petrol that would produce a price 0.4p more than a whole penny and then I suspect the total would be rounded down and you'd get 0.4p worth of petrol free with which to drive maybe 60 metres?0

If you buy more than 2 litres at a time, you might occasionally manage to get some rounding down
You might also save time and money by not going to fill up quite so often0 -
Its not about the distance it would get me etc its about whats right and whats wrong.
They may well round it down below .5 and similarly round it up above .5 the point is we dont have any legal currency in the UK that allows you to purchase in fractions of a penny.
In other words its wrongly advertised as they cannot actualy charge you that price unless you buy in exact multiples of 10L
Its very similar to the 99p instead of a pound debate. It makes it look cheaper than it really is
109.9 against 110.
Your brain automatically picks up the 109 registers this rather than rounding it up to the real price of 110.0 -

What on earth are you moaning about? Every price you pay in the supermarket is rounded up or down from something. The petrol stations are merely displaying a more accurate price, and I wouldn't mind betting that for 0.4 or below the price will be rounded down.0 -

I admit that .1p per litre is not exactly going to break the bank but the OP does have a point to be fair. Its not like you would buy milk at 31.9p per pint or similar. And if you did every ten pints you buy thats 1p. Say you drink 10 pints a week thats only a pennny a week but its still a penny more expensive than it should be.
I was suprised with 'espresso's' post.
EDIT: I would argue that it wouldnt be rounded down in the 0.4p argument. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0
