Oof, Ampersand - hope you're okay - and how nice to see a Marge Piercy quote in your sig, when you have time for such things again.

At a meet and right moment in my life, over ten years ago, a tatty p/b spine somehow took my eye and hand and thence, a mighty lump of soul.
This was in Oxfam, Cambridge, whose books, even then, tended to be overpriced. It was not.
This slimmish vol. was 'My Mother's Body' which I have loved and loved and shared with a.n.other, when I thought there never would be a.n.other ever again.
It has disappeared from me, but I am not concerned and will have it again, when I see another secondhand.
MP is another of those persons I feel I must meet before clogs pop; I'm already too late for Humphrey Lyttelton, Oliver Postgate, Pete McCarthy - just a random few.
In some ways, these missed 'friends' are not lost, because the feeling of being known/as one/at ease with them, are not ruffled.
It may even have the saving grace of an acquaintance or empathy that cannot be checked at some future hurdle.
Mmmmmm, best stop - and head for Mr T Reduced Lemons Countreeee!

So true, that those people are with us. And in these days of the internet, sometimes they actually are.... I've had online conversations with authors ranging from investment, spiritual economics and science fiction. Not long, but they exist now, whereas they never did before.

Hope the lemon problem is sorted!

    Morning All :hello:
 yikes and Ow to DS's hand MoT - and :rolleyes2 to making you go at peak time in Casualty. DS2 (and DS1 for that matter) ensured I was very familiar with our local casualty. ;)

Share your disappointment at not meeting Humph and Oliver Postgate ampersand, and Bernard Cornwall and Primo Levi, and, and etc. But how true that because of their work they are still known by/with us.

So I missed a Troll again? good thing too, I'm trying to avoid negative peeps at the moment (too many at work :o ) and concentrate on the glass full bits of my life.

I've been down to visit the Aged P's again, and had a lovely time. Only a couple of episodes of tears (usually a couple an hour for dear Ma as she finds her frailties so distressing:sad: ) otherwise we have laughed SO much. I asked if I could borrow one of her books, and she looked at it and said she couldn't remember reading it, although it was with the books she'd finished with. She said she couldn't remember most of the books she'd read; but that was good because she was discovering old favourites as if for the first time nowadays:rotfl:
Took them shopping (separately, they get stir crazy and need time without each other ;) )

Will post a list of things I must do today when I've worked it out.
I usually do my signature once a month and this month instead of going up (2 lots of return flights bought) it should decrease.....and I'm so looking forward to updating, I may do it early :D

Hi Olive, glad it went well with the aged Ps. How sad your mum gets frustrated with her frailty - I remember my dad being like that, years ago - he managed to get up my front steps to see this house (back in the late 90s) but was upset cos he couldn't do any painting for me, it was so sad. I wanted to get him a piece of fine grade sandpaper and have him do a couple of minutes, just for the principle of the thing, but my mum took over, as usual, and blustered it away. I wish I'd done it anyway tho. Good for you for taking them out separately. And your updating sounds like its going to be *really* good!

  • It is sad at times.

I find myself having similar coversations with my Gran and i do so hate them. It is the fragility if the situation and realising that we are getting to be the older generation now as our older generation is fading.
I personally am determined to be as *Compo* like as possible..looks around for Obe tutting away..

As KC pertinently points out your update will be great. x
Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:

but as you say, for every negative there is a positive - re-visiting all those books as though for the first time - very MSE.....saves buying a load of new ones :T

    • make a loaf towards my packed lunches this week.
    • Also doing a bit of baking. Making a Date Loaf for our packed lunches. I didn't look at the date on the dates:o .......I think they were bought in 2007..... While oven is on I will roast squash for our risotto tonight and cook my 50p chicken nuggets from the reduced section of Sainsbury this morning (other 3 packs going in freezer)
    • washing hokey cokey -they'll dry faster too now I have the oven on ;) the house is FREEZING:rotfl:
    • scratch (25p wooooo)
    • update my banking and possibly renew my signature because I'm SO excited..... I've had a peep, it's looking good. ;) But now the debt is down to 1 x 0% balance on a credit card which I have to clear by May (currently more than £7,500 but achievable.....) and 3 loans which expire Mar & April 2010 and July 2011. I can't find the original paperwork so I don't know for sure, but I don't think I can overpay. I didn't think I'd get to this point so soon so imagined the DFD would be around when they're finished, and now  :j  I suppose I have to wait until I've cleared the credit card and then ask them if I can pay them off early. If there is no financial benefit then I suppose I just have to let them run - but then I can't call myself debt free.......
    • tidy my bedroom -well the floor is clearer now I'm doing the laundry ;)
    • cook meal from LAST weeks shopping - that's stretching it hugely, we're having roast squash and blue cheese risotto :D But I'm trying to clear clutter so eating more food from the cupboards will make room for the lodgers groceries......
    • Clear[STRIKE]ing [/STRIKE]ed a mountain of magazines (mostly Good Food, Sainsbury & etc) which I've kept because there was a good recipe in it.....one in each magazine that is :rotfl: though I'm quite enjoying rereading them and am planning next weeks meals as I do. I fancy a Spanish themed meal now :D Now I have a v small pile of torn out pages.......
    • Tidy my bedroom.....oops said that before, must be on my mind:laugh:
    • Do some writing -Diary doesn't count? ok off to do some now ;)
    • Skype Popeye :happyhear He'll be home from work soon :D
