Olive Oyls 12-month Countdown
Comments

I'm packing now for my return flight tonight
We've had a lovely week and I'm back here in 5 weeks time, butfor today.
Lots of discussion as we approach the 12-month of the title, deadline
If you'd asked me 2 months ago, or even one month ago I would have said Popeye would be returning to the UK next Spring.......but such is his enjoyment of his job, and his lifestyle here, and such is the state of the UK job market it is looking 90% likely that my time is up  I shall have to come out here in 2010 after all.
This means I would have to give up work  there's no chance of getting a work permit for me. One income, 2 homes........it's a good thing we have learned over the last 2 years how to live frugally. The sums look terrifying, but there should be a payrise in December.
The next step is for neither of us to overspend by even a penny over the next few weeks (how many to Christmas Shaun?) so that we can afford this........

Well, at least things look clearer now - it is much better to know where you are heading, rather than wandering around in circles.....
And if you had been in this dilemma a couple of years ago, with debt of £40k, it would have been even more :eek:to do the two homes, one income thing.

Two years ago with £46K debt we wouldn't even have had a choice......

Hi Olive
That's good news that things are starting to fall into place....and great news that finally you and Popeye will be seeing more of each other. Can you rent your house out over here?
Friend of mine has just announced that they are moving back to Australia because her husband was made redundant last year and hasn't been able to find another job.....They are gutted to leave....but know it's a much better economy over there at the moment job-wise.....
Have a good flight back and see you soon

Do you know I'm one of the best fallen coin spotters known; but I have NEVER seen an unattended coin in this country :rotfl: But eating cheaply is not a problem, the flights back to the UK will be.....
Popeye gets a 2 year bonus shortly and that will be our cushion, however I aim not to use it

T Can you rent your house out over here?
xxxx
We did look at that, but for a number of reasons it won't happen.
It will remain a refuge for the 3 kids - and for historical reasons that is important.
People we know who've done that find it very hard to return to their house without totally redecorating and overhauling - most have moved rather than live in what no longer feels like home
I will need to return regularly for family and don't want to camp when I do.
The amount of personal stuff that would have to be rehomed is phenominal. Everyone (except me :A) is a gold medal hoarder :rotfl:
But it is certainly something to think about, and we will review regularly0 -
