Well I meant that too KC!
I thought you did really - just couldn't find quite the bit to quote, sorryThe Aged P's are aged (79 & 89) and neither in *good* health so they aren't going to be around as long as I wish them to be
Its so difficult, isn't it. And if your mum was a refugee, she's had a very, very tough start in life. My mum was an evacuee in this country, and that was bad enough. And have you actually finished the garage? if so -WOW, I'm impressedThere's a lot of wood, for instance, that we didn't look at. Some old kitchen cupboards where all I've done is pick up *two* old kettles to go to the recycling.... but the back of it is broken, and its a lot cleaner, and there's a lot fewer *things* there that all the little scoobies can lay eggs on and nest in and whatnot. But we've broken the back of it today - my mate took all the techie crap earlier this week, and I had a go last weekend. I want to get it into a state where I can actually do a DIY project in there if I want to! Slight hijack here, but I feel *really* good about the change!

No it's great that your garage is becoming usable as a garage
I really love it if I can say "I need a xxxx" and can find it in the right placeAnd I saw your post about the bag of shredding (mine goes on the compost btw) so I shall remind you on Weds to put it out for recycling :rotfl:
My mum stayed in Germany until the 1950's when she came to England as an economic migrant. During the war her family work situation was stable (though her Pa did end up in a POW camp towards the end) but it was tough. She is grateful for so much, and I am so proud of what she and my father did/went through, albeit on opposing sides.0 -
Hi there - just wanted to say - hugs and you are right about some of the times we have with our kids/family if OH lives further away etc
OH has just gone bback on boats - so DS and I just moved the mower (BRB back into garage) and we oiled it etc we had a laugh about how touch and go it was getting in there so FINALLY - put the recycling into the back of the car, got rid of boxes full of 'special invisible stuff' that he suggested I might want to put on ebay to pay for his gig tickets (ie empty cardboard boxes)
Normally he'd do this grudgingly with my brother or OH as its a sort of 'boy/man job' which i always think is good for him but never quite gels as its not his dad - but we had a hoot an a half doing stupid silly bits - he told me I made a good MAD (half mum half dad) and then ran quickly!!!!
Garage still difficult to enter without a hard hat but the recycling will go tomorrow enroute to my field (get to claim milage)
Glad you had a nice blether with Mum and DS xxTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:

Yep, I love my garage again! Confession about the compost: I've stopped composting. I haven't been to the back garden for about 3 months now..... and because the hill is so steep, I don't even know what it looks like. I'll focus on the front for now, and do the back once autumn is a bit more advanced.
On the familiy - still a tough situation for your mum - a German friend of mine of my age had a father who was just old enough to be conscripted into the war at the very end, he was 15 or so, and was on the Eastern front - died very early as a result of the stresses and injuries from that time.
That really is true love between your mum and dad, isn't it, to come together from sides that had been at war so recently at that time .... how lovely.
EDIT = Fay! Another garage becoming useable! Nice on e......2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

That is SUCH a good phrase - it sums up single parenting perfectly :rotfl::rotfl:
YUP - I even have a stick on false moustache (it was from a kids party ages ago and is stuck to the fridge!) for when I need to be dad - which i wear whilst standing on a stool trying to sound 'stern' - :rotfl:and i point my finger alot and mumble about kids today and no respect.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

KC I've heard so many tales these last few months from my Mum
And it is not just historical -my Mum is like many of the economic migrants that we get in this country even now. It colours my views when I read media opinion on the different problems we have with immigration here, and in other countries. She definitely suffered (she's not complained though!) racism, there was a deep hatred of Germans immediately after the war, but she's contributed more to this country than many people have. And her English is so good that she corrects my Pa sometimes :rotfl:0 -
Morning All :hello:
Off to work shortly - I was going to walk but......:o came here instead.
Just waiting for the washing machine to finish so I can stuff hang up.
Today I need to:- renew travel insurance (Quidco here I come :j)
- get case down from loft for Friday
- go to London this evening for a meeting and supper will be provided
- use the carton of soup that lodger has left in the fridge - that's my lunch
(it is within hailing distance of the use by date, so she won't touch it :rotfl:)
- google the symptoms the cat has, just in case I need to take him to a vet _pale_

Yikes to the vet, hurray to being on here, ditto to that. Sounds close to a NSD, which is also good - hope you're not back too late from London.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
