    Morning all

Gemzie - I hope you get it sorted. It sounds totally unfair.
  • Luc wait til the end of the month. Too many times have I budgeted.. seen I would be expecting to save x amount, paid it off something and then either the budget was wrong, or something cropped up.

Maybe you're right. I was tending towards paying overdraft - that way if the money is needed I can still access it from that account but at the same time my interest cost goes down. Plus I am desparate to pay the OD off before mat leave starts (for no reason other than personal satisfaction:rolleyes: )

Luc- if you bang the £500 onto your debt now, would hubbles help you out if you came a bit stuck? or is this £500 joint money?

if it's okay for him to help you out with money for any unforeseen circumstances, then i'd be inclined to throw it at debt...

Gemzie - I hope you get it sorted - stay calm on the phone and make sure you get names/times of calls. Is there a small print that states what's classed as a deposit? You know how tricky some of these banks can be.

We had a letter from Amex last week, stating that as our card hadn't been used in 4 months (not used it at all aside from the initial bt) they'd be closing the account in 14 days  We have a 0% balance of £3k on there that we pay more than minimum payment monthly...obviously not making them any money.....the letter stated that we needed to make a purchase on the card within 4 days for the account to stay active - of course according to the tc's that would take the rest of the balance off of 0%. DH phoned them and told them he wouldn't be making a purchase, he wouldn't be moving the balance and he wouldn't be paying interest on a 0% deal, he then offered to send the letter to the financial ombusman under the terms of the "treating customers fairly" thingy.....amazingly they apologised, confirmed that the account was in good order and that we didn't need to make a purchase to keep it open.

But how many people read that letter and went out and made a purchase without questioning it? It's very underhand.

    Hope you're all well today - it's our wedding anniversary - 7 years - where's that gone???

  • Hellooooooooooooooooooooooo everyone :grouphug:

Who has broken their new year's resolutions already then?!

I am going cold turkey with chocolate when we have depleted what's leftover - not much really and will be glad when it's gone! Except for these little handmade chocolate pigs we have, I could eat those all day...

HUbbles would definitely help out if necessary. I was thinking I'd chuck £300 at O/D today (it has higher interest rate than CC) and have £200 in reserve in case of unexpecteds then see where I am at the end of the month. I'm going to be at home for all but 7 more days of Jan so shopping opportunities and therefore temptation to splurge will be limited ...

    My resolutions were

    1) to take better care of myself and be generally more 'groomed' - i.e. make up to work, legs defuzzed regularly, proper skin care etc as I have always been rather slap dash in this department...

    2) to make the most of 1:1 time with Bean while it lasts

    3) to run at least 3 10k races before 31 Dec 2009

    4) to get personal debt below £5,000 by 31 Dec 2009 (this should be the biggest challenge!)
