Returning a Blu ray DVD to Tescos

I'll try and phone and see what happens, thank you.0

No good in thanking just because they tell you something that you what you wanted to hear rather than what they can legally allowed to do
You're the first person to offer any real light to my original question. Thank you.
Of course we all make mistakes, no harm in asking but as I said they dont have to change it, it isnt Tescos fault that the Op made the mistake
We're all human we all make mistakes. Tesco in Exeter obviously accepted this. Maybe the company have since changed their policy as this was a couple of months ago?
My mum took the DVD back to a store in a different town. They had sold out of 'normal' DVDs (funnily enough it was Mamma Mia too!) so she couldn't swap the Blue Ray, They took it back and gave her a refund. True story.
Fantastic customer service.0 -
Noel80 - this type of feedback inspires me to try again. Thank you.0

True : Although Noel did offer a positive stance despite the legal stand-point - which is what I'd expect from a site called Money Saving Expert. Alot of the responses have been basically rude, personal, unhelpful and 20x20 in retrospect etc. If I want that - I'll go to Tesco's Extra Bradley Stoke :-)0

No probs. As other posters have mentioned there are laws that stores can stick to and customers are not necessarily entitled to refunds etc but thankfully a lot of stores have a more relaxed attitude.
My mum made it obvious that she wanted to swap the DVD and was not just looking for a refund. It was only because they had sold out that she got a refund.0 -
Umm. I don't think sanitary towel and DVD standards and variations follow the same suite but thank you.
Why not? Is there a reason why people should understand the difference between two types of sanitary product and two types of DVD? As you have demonstrated that you do not know the difference between different types of sanitary product (Tampax are tampons, not sanitary towels), you have demonstrated that it is a perfect comparison!
Gone ... or have I?0 -

Santino66 if I were you, I would ask a parent / older friend to take it back for you. They could say they have tried to watch it on their DVD player but it doesn't seem to work - they could just play dumb. Perhaps when they return it, they could target an older Tesco worker also as they are more likely to bend the rules a little.
I like the sanitary towel analogy, although for a minute I was fearful that it would leave dmg24 a little red faced!0 -
Thanks - I'll give it another go. £17 is £17 after all.
I'm backing away from Tampax, Tampons, Towels etc, I'm not doing myself any favours :-)0 -
Generally the reason you can't get a refund on games and DVDs is due to copyright, i.e. buyer copies disc then returns disc to shop for refund.
If the issue is that the wrong format was purchased, then I would have thought it should be no problem to replace it with the same product but in the correct version. Anyone who had bought it to copy would have little to gain from exchanging it for a different version.
Staff should be looking at the reasons for a company policy, not just following it to the letter. On the odd occasion there can be good reason to over-ride company policy.0
