Returning a Blu ray DVD to Tescos
Comments

I suspect as Blu Ray actually is quite common they would assume you know when you buy it that you know if you want DVD or BluRay, in much the same way I would have expected people to know if they had VHS or BetaMax all those years ago.
BluRay discs are clearly in different packaging to help prevent just such a situation, as well as being considerably more expensive, so as someone else said surely it should have occured to your friend that they didnt have a BluRay player before removing the packaging?
As far as till sophistication goes, much of it is down to the staff - they enter the bag reuse points not the till. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

... OK I WAS being a sneak to hope they'd forget to take the packaging off the replacement!! I think they should advise customers if the DVD is Blu Ray at the point of sale, it could avoid alot of potential disappointment as I guess it's not that common a standard yet. Although they usually forget to add on the bag recycling points so I guess the till software may not be that fancy.
Do they advise people buying Tampax that they are buying super and not regular? If they advised this for DVD's, then they would have to do so with all items that had a variant.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Sorry but it is not Tescos fault you got the wrong product. If they took it back opened they they wont be able to resell it. If it was not opened, then legally they still don't have to refund unless the product fell with in the sale of goods act which this clearly doesn't
If you are not happy with the outcome you can always shop else where however I bet most retailers would do exactly the same as Tescos did0 -
Tescos have one of the best returns policy there is but when it comes to copyright they have little scope to overule.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Bloomin' eck. Some people on here are very harsh.
My mother did the exact same thing. Bought a Blue Ray DVD from Tesco without realising (not that obvious if you've never heard of Blue Ray). Opened it all up etc. Rang up Tesco and they said she could bring it back no problem to ANY Tesco store. Which she did. And got her money back.
This was in Exeter. I was very impressed. :T0 -
Its not harsh, would you like prices to jump simply because people buy the wrong items and want to return them opened?
Why should the shop take the hit? They probably wouldn't it would just bump prices up to reflect return opened goods if they had to do that a lot.
It might sound harsh but no point telling the Op advice which is wrong, the company has no obligation to accept opened goods unless they are fault or not as described
It would be good service if they took it back unopened and give you a credit note etc but they still dont have too,Bloomin' eck. Some people on here are very harsh.

Have to say, Tesco are normally very good about this kinda thing - especially as you want to change it for the DVD, I'm amazed they refused you. I reckon trying another store might do the trick - maybe you just got the CS people on a bad day...0

Umm. I don't think sanitary towel and DVD standards and variations follow the same suite but thank you.0

You're the first person to offer any real light to my original question. Thank you.0

We're all human we all make mistakes. Tesco in Exeter obviously accepted this. Maybe the company have since changed their policy as this was a couple of months ago?
My mum took the DVD back to a store in a different town. They had sold out of 'normal' DVDs (funnily enough it was Mamma Mia too!) so she couldn't swap the Blue Ray, They took it back and gave her a refund. True story.
Fantastic customer service.0
