Tuesday 6th January 2009

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 6th January 2009. This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well

Moning all,

Very cold here this morning, it was - 3 inside my conservatory  , the heating is on, and it still feels bitter.

I have a Sainsbugs delivery coming this morning, hopefully it will all come, as we are out of everything. I need to make a lamb casserole in the sc for tea tonight, they have said it will be the coldest day of the winter today, so we will need something warming for dinner tonight, I have bought some neck of lamb, and will do it with butter beans and chick peas yum.

Also need to make some soup and a garlic loaf for tomorrow, and maybe some scones, so I shall be cooking for most of the day, which is probably wise in this weather ;) .

Keep warm everyone,

Aussie how is Benny ? xx

Hugs to Tilly the cat.

Churchie and Smoky, hugs to you both xx

Have good days all xx

Good morning to you Redruby and others that follow.

I have my weather station up and running, so I can tell you that in Mid Cornwall this morning it is -6.2c. That's one of the coldest mornings for some time me thinks.
Very Frosty and I am a little concerned that there is not enought anti freeze in the car.... Fingers crossed.
Worked till 10, nothing much doing there.
Back in at 1 today. Got all the Christmas decs to put away this morning. OH has a some supply teaching which is good, but only half a day, so not much money earned there.
Boiler service cost me less than expected, so I can bank another £50 towards my holiday. Or maybe I will just spend it on some socks and a delicious pie at Mrs Miggins pie shoppe.
Coffee is on.... Must go and get some. Cheers folks

    Morning everyone,

It's bitterly cold here too the weather forecast said last night that it could get down to -7 it feels like it this morning! DD & DS1 are getting ready for college/school now while I make some porridge to warm them up. Ds2 not back in until tomorrow. I'll take the dog out in a while, only the younger one it's too cold for the 14yo Labrador at the moment

OS wise I'll be cooking 15kg of new potatoes that dh was given at the bar where he works yesterday ;) I'll probably parboil them all then open freeze them before bagging them up in meal sized portions :T Then I'm going into town to have a look for christmas cards, they weren't reduced enough last week :D and ds2 will spend his WH Smith gift voucher. Tea tonight is Pasta Bake - another hot & comforting meal!

Hugs to anyone who needs them. Have a great day whatever you're all doing.

    Morning all
Dw is emptied & on again, hubby delivered to the station, local one this time as the trains are running ok.
I have to get to work early, as the paperwork I couldn't do yesterday is needed for 8:30!!
It's our FO's b'day today, I'm taking him a loo roll with an appropriate verse attached, I pinced the idea from Mary on the 'cheap presents with poems thread'.
I made gallons of steak & kidney pie filling yesterday, so that's in the freezer, along with about 20 individual size circles of cooked frozen pastry, all ready for another set of meals.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all :D

Back at work yesterday and it has severely cut back my MSE reading . I didn't get onto the site to read OS at all yesterday

Anyway, I've started the working year with the intention of being more planned. I already have my lunches sorted for the week (I've always managed to do this), but I'm planning to cut down the time needed to produce the evening meal each day. My freezers are full to the brim so I can't batch cook at the weekends yet, so I'm cooking the night before (putting it on after our evening meal), chilling it and then storing it in the fridge for the next next night for a quick re-heat. Last night I made a big batch of jacket potatoes in the remoska. These will do us the next two nights with the (already made) HM quiche and some fresh broccoli.

Must dash! Have a lovely OS day everyone :D
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

Good Morning Everyone! very cold in this corner of NW Essex too - have just walked younger dog and come home freezing. Reminds me of when I was a child - no girl wore trousers to school and we only had knee socks. Very cold legs! Need to do some cooking today and bake more bread. really glad I don't have to drive in to work anymore, the roads are like ice-rinks. Take care everyone.

    Morning everyone

Been awake since before 5, DH has a man cold  coughing, spluttering and not forgetting the sighing. I am copying all the data from the desktop onto a Hdd as a second backup before I rebuild it, as after working with the Techie area it still isn't behaving as it should.

On the OS front, DS & GF went back on Sunday, and while lovely to see them, glad to have the house back to ourselves, and now we will start a complete blitz. All the kitchen tops had a good clean yesterday, as well as taking the decs down and hoovering the lounge. For some strange reason DS had disturbed the wiring linking all our lounge TV/Sky/HDR/Home Cinema/Video, and the TV signal was not going to the other TV's in the house, so ended up pulling it out and re-doing in (I am the wiring guru in this house), now everything back and working. It will be easer if/when we upgrade the TV, with more modern connections, but cannot really justify replacing something which works well. Today the main bathroom, and ironing are on the list, together with a tidy up in our bedroom and a clean of their bedroom, got the beding washed yesterday, :o TD working hard. Food wise, still using up left overs, and will probably see us through this week with a little imagination.

On the BP front I am now more angry than anything as I have had 3 months with it high and no treatment as they really did not make it clear it was high, as I would not ignore it.

Smoky/Pen-Pen/CM/Mrs_Mix and all others feeling carp or would like a :grouphug:

    Take care

    Morning everyone :)
Haven't been outside yet, but it looks very cold here in North Lincolnshire. Hubby's just gone off to work and I want to catch up on some jobs today....so it'll be the Flylady thread I'll be looking at in a few minutes when I've finished my cuppa.

Spent most of last evening clearing out old birthday/Christmas cards from the bureau in the front room....why do I keep them all?!! :o I kept the special handmade ones from the grandkids and a few others (like the last one my Nan sent me years ago) and have cut all the best bits off the others to make tags etc.

Will have to sort the freezers out soon, they are jam-packed full of stuff...and I want to get meal-planning. That'll be fun on a cold day :D

    Anyway...hugs to all....and keep warm!!

Me too! Suffice to say that most of my OSing is done in the evening at the moment. Life would be so much easier without work! However me & OH have a pact not to drink so much wine, only had one glass last night so instead of drinking we are now having to find things to do! Last night we had tea (OK, we'd normally do that anyway), tidied up and DW on, and washed out our beer barrels - will make a beer this evening. Then had a bath and read a book about modern bread and all the horrid things in it - we bake our own anyway, but it is a fascinating read.

Better get going - need to leave for work in 25 mins and still sat here in PJs!

    Have a good day everyone!
