Easy Jet Lost Luggage....HELP!!!

Ok...So I flew out to Amsterdam with EasyJet from Gatwick on the 29th December and stayed until the 1st January when I made the return trip.
Everything was fine on the way out there and we had an amazing holiday but on the way back, being new years day, Amsterdam Schiphol airport was very quiet. The 6 guys I was with and myself checked in on time and having had my bag tagged up I was told to take it to oversized baggage as it is a large camping rucksack with straps etc.
The nearest oversized baggage check-in was not manned, so I was directed to another, not-so-near one. This I was not particularly happy about but unfortunately had no choice....This was the last time I saw my bag!!
We arrived back at Gatwick and after 30 minutes of watching all the passengers pick up their luggage I was still left waiting like a fool. I reported my missing bag immediately to the attendant with all my contact details and was given a reference and told to expect a call when it was located.
Unfortunately my car keys were in the bag (muppet I know!!) and I therefore had to get a lift to somewhere that another friend could pick me up from and take me home. This other friend then subsequently crashed his car on the way to collect me and I had to get home another way but that story is even longer and more frustrating!!!
Having phoned the lost baggage line every day and been fobbed off with increasingly lame attempts at excuses and been sent the wrong persons luggage with my name and address on!! I am slightly worried to say the least...
Does anyone have any ideas what the chances of seeing my bag again are? And if not what is the chance of claiming for the contents of my bag, which I have valued at roughly £800?
Thank you all in advance for your responses and a Happier New Year than mine to everyone!!

When they lost my bag last year it was returned the next day or day after. When a friend of my mums lsot her bag it was several days before they got it back partly because they were travelling around Ireland & the bag was 'chasing' them round the country. I was told I could claim for having to buy essential items until my bag was returned whcih was around £40 (my 2 yr old sons stuff was in my bag so had to buy nappies, clothes etc, not to mention his prescription meds which were also in there as they are liquid!). The cocked up my claim by giving me the worng address to claim to & then keeping all my receipts when they told me where I should claim to. I ended up just letting it go (probably what mot people do) which I nkow I shouldn't but it wasn't worth the hassle & stress at the time.
Therefore keep hassling them as I'm sure you're entitled to something (do you have travel insurance? You could claim from them as well/instead...) Good luck it's really miserable but everyone I know who has lost a bag (with a variety of airlines) has got it back so keep your hopes up.1% at a time no. 40. £8000 (For dream family holiday) 94/100
MFW 2013 no. 62 £10,000/£10,000
MFW 2014 no 62 £8000/£70000 -
Thank you very much for your response!! It's nice to have another persons perspective, especially when they have had success.
I will keep on at them and hopefully get some results, I'll be sure to let people know what action I end up taking, if any is required, as i'm sure this sort of thing happens all the time.
If there's anyone else out there who has similar stories, please feel free to post them here as it would be good to know if there are any methods that work (or not!!)
Thanks again.0 -
Do you have travel insurance? You are likely to get more joy from them than from the airline.0

Unfortunately not, i'm only 21 and don't travel very often. It was supposed to be a budget trip and as nothing like this has happened before we all chanced it ... well at least i'll learn from my mistake!!0

Actually I did have some success with my lost bag Chloe.
Having not had any substantial response from easyJet's lost baggage team or their handling agents, Groundcare Solutions Ltd, I decided to initiate a claim directly against easyJet.
I was informed that you are required to wait 21 days before making a claim, so once this time was up, I sent a letter to easyJet requesting reimbursement of the replacement cost of my lost luggage, along with a copy of my boarding pass, property irregularity reprt and a detailed account of all the items in the bag with costs and a couple of receipts. (If you would like a copy of the letter etc. I can happily email them to you.)
I sent my letter of claim to easyJet on the 3rd February 2009 and received a cheque for £727.39 roughly 14 days later. Unfortunately I was advised that easyJet were not responsible for the cost of electronic devices, so my ipod, electric razor and toothbrush were not covered but all in all I was fairly satisfied.
I found out that the maximum settlement is 1000 special drawing rights, which is equal to around £937, so do not expect to receive any more than this but if the value of the contents of your baggage is more than this and if it is justified and documented, you should receive this figure.
If anyone would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will do all that I can to be of assistance.
Best of luck.

I have just PM'd you.
Thanks again0 -
Thank you very much for this topic, it is very useful!
We now are in the same situation. The luggage was registered in Gatwick, but didn't arrive to Edinburgh, call center always says "all agents are busy". Actuatlly, I went to the airport and asked when it will be possible to get my luggage or reimbursement but got only reply "you'll get your luggage as soon as possible". And no luggage for three days already.
I hope they will find it.
drucesmith, Joe, could you please give me the contacts of departments where it is possible to make claim, I'd like to know it beforehand and if in 21 days my bag is not with me, I'll write claim at once.0 -
I think you will find that the maximum they will pay is based on the weight of the luggage not its value. See info provided by Heathrow http://www.heathrowinformation.co.uk/heathrow-airport-INF-lost-luggage.phpIT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
