Im sure alot of people wont agree but I think they should have reduced the payment to £15 and made more people entitled, Im probably biased as Im not entitled to it but find it a bit unfair when i work 2 days a week and im not even better off by as much as the payment compared to when I was on IS!!

I guess thats one way of looking at it, but the other is it has to cold for 7 consecutive nights, and since Nov 08 I have recieved 2 payments, previuosly to that never had any cold weather payments, from 2003, so its not as though its something that happens every week / every winter.

Also previuosly it use to be 4 ngts, then when they upped it to £8.50 as it was they then made it 7 ngts.

    not quite right,
You may also be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment for each qualifying week if you are getting Income Support or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance and have a child under five or get one of the following:
    • a pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
    • a disability premium or severe disability premium
    • a disabled child premium
    • Child Tax Credit that includes an individual element for a child or qualifying young person who is disabled or severely disabled

I think this is a right load of rubbish, i am a single parent working 16 hours a wk, struggling with childcare and questioning every day why the hell i go to work when i could have it all handed to me on a plate?? I have a hugh gas bill too, but because i dont have the money to pay for it, my kids have to sit in their dressing gowns and blankets on a night??

I would guess that you are a lot better off than a lot of single parents on here, the cold weather payment does not happen every week, it has to -0 for 7 ngts in a row, and it is only a % of singlr parents that get it, mainly if u have a child under 5, once their at school the beneift stops, ok yes it has gone upto £25 this yr but last yr it was £7.00.
Your working 16 hrs a week, therefore your get working tax credits, child tax credit, cb.
So plz dont assume that everyone has the money handed to them on a plate

Why would you assume that i am better off a lot of other single parents? I dont get any support from my ex, so actually i am not. I have difficulties with childcare for my 4 year old whilst i work but the fact is i DO work. Isnt every one entitled to child tax credit and cb? I choose not to have money handed on a plate to me, unlike some that are quite capable of working ...but simply cant be bothered. My point was with all these benefits you can get without doing anything... why should i be bothered, and im sure others feel the same way.
  • Hi Ells I don't think that this is what this thread is for. This thread is for the people that do get the CWP and for those with questions about it. I am offended by your comments about people not working because they can't be bothered. Like you I am a single Mum and I don't get any help form my ex. Yes I do get Child tax and CB but let me just say that I struggle every single week to provide heating and food also. The £25 doesn't go very far and at the minute I am putting alot of money on my meters to keep the house warm. I was a student nurse and had done two years of my training I chose to leave to have my dd as at the time everything was ok with my dd's dad. We have now split up so nowI am stuck on Income support and looking for work. Every single week I apply for countless jobs and hardly get any interviews and when I do I still haven't had an offer of a job. I would love to work 16 hours a week, even just for the interaction with other adults. So please don't judge us all, that is a load of rubbish.
