Penny - the whole point of what I was asking was that the recipe collection is just sooooo full of a zillion recipes that it all gets a bit overwhelming. I was asking if we could have a separate thread so that a few recipes could be highlighted each week allowing those of us that haven't been able to plow our way through each and every single recipe on the horrendously large collection to see a few of the tried and true ones that the more experienced people here have, plus gives a chance for specific feedback and pics of the recipes during the week so we can ask questions or get tips and hints. I didn't put this thread on the mealplan thread as it's not pertaining to mealplanning but more to trying out some of the OS recipes. Burying this in the mealplan thread pretty much dooms it from the start. *sigh*

I also made a point of saying I wasn't qualified to do it myself as I just cannot seem to fight my way through that collection - there's so much I just don't even know where to begin. I was hoping someone that has been here a long time and is more familiar with some of the recipes might be able to bring to light some hidden gems, so to speak.

Triggles, you can still use the mealplanning thread even if you are not mealplanning! If you see any recipe you like the sound of just ask the poster (either on the thread or a PM) for the recipe- they will generally provide it, or a link to it. I know this is not exactly what you had in mind but it is an alternative way in to some more exciting recipes. I doubt if anyone has tried every recipe on the collections, and also it would be very hard to provide a 'recipe of the week' seeing as we all have different tastes, budgets, access to shops etc. I hope you find something suitable.
(ETA angelnikki we cross-posted- great minds and all that ;))

wednesday-pork in creamy mustard sauce with veg and new pots (the sauce only has 3 ingredients, and is lovely, I swear I will never buy a jar of sauce again!)
Lisa, how do you make the creamy mustard sauce, I am guessing cream and mustard but what is the other ingredient?

    Hi Triggles

I think the weekly mealplan thread fits in quite well with what you're asking for; this thread isnt just used by people who mealplan but is also used by people who are looking for new os recipes/ideas. :)

Lots of people just read through the mealplans for inspiration and when they see a meal they like they sound of they ask for the recipe.

If you read through this week's thread you'll see that a few tried and tested recipes have already been posted. ;)

If there's any meals you like the sound of just ask, everyone's always very willing to share recipes and help with hints and tips. :D

Absolutely - it makes you feel good if someone else thinks your menu list looks interesting (as it can look like boring food you always cook to you ;)) :D

Haven't posted on this thread in a long time but will start again as a new year's resolution. Still meal-planning with gusto - although I'm getting bored with some of the recipes - got some nice cookery books for Christmas and The Thrift Book by India Knight (which, incidentally, could have been written by anybody on OS) so I should get around to using those soon.

    Plan for this week......

Monday - Delia's Mini Yorkshires with seared beef and horseradish sauce and Nigel Slaters Crab Cakes (using up the last of the Christmas grazing food)
Tuesday - Roast Chicken and all trimmings
    Wednesday - Cottage Pie
Thursday - Spanish Chicken and Couscous
Friday - Fish Fingers and Chips
    Saturday - HM Pizza

Will endeavour to post more often this year

    Glad to be back

I have found that when I've gone into the Recipe Collection, I am sometimes just overwhelmed at all the stuff in there. I don't know where to begin and either end up giving up or wandering aimlessly and not finding much.

Would it be possible for us to have a "Recipes of the Week" weekly thread? If someone (not a clue who would be willing to do this!) was willing to pick out say 7 varying types of recipes from the collection and put up a thread (maybe each Sunday) with a link to those 7 recipes, then during the week, people can post on that thread with feedback, pictures, tips and hints for those particular recipes or maybe ideas to enhance them. It would be a good way, I think, to bring out some of these recipes without feeling like we're buried in them.

    Anyone else interested in this?

Triggles, I know how you feel, I get overwhelmed by the amount in there, and to be honest, don't have the time or inclination to look - although it's a great place to go when you're looking for something in particular.

I do think however, a recipe of the week thread will get just as lost in the collection and it will be the same as you have already said - overwhelming.

One thing that I do is look on here to see what other people are having - there are some great ideas, and it changes every week too - you can ask people questions about what they are doing, what it's like, how much it costs, etc and they always get back to you - sometimes with piccies too...;)

Another great source of meal inspiration for me is the grocery challenge - the very first post on there is a load of recipes that have been tried and tested by loads of people on the thread - so again, willing to offer advice on how/where/cost/look/etc...

It's a great idea though, but I think it would be hard to do - although lesser people than me have been told the same and have gone ahead and done something anyway, making a great success of it... Best of luck hun if you do decide to do one...

    it's just chicken stock orkneystar!

I basically fry my pork chops till they are cooked through, put them to one side, then put in about 100ml of chicken stock into the pan with the pork juices and whack the heat up till it's bubbling, put a teaspoon of wholegrain mustard in and two tablespoons of creme fraiche and then put the chops back in for a couple of mins. it's really tasty, I normally have it with mash and spinach
