Lazymoo, your pasta with bacon and peas sounds lovely. Do you put a sauce in it as well?0
-
hey pink, yeah I do only with creme fraiche though! so kind of healthy???
cook your pasta, works better with shapes rather than spaghetti or linguine.
heat some olive oil, fry a bit of onion in a pan, some chopped bacon, till it's crispy ( I only put the onion in if I've got one handy)
add some frozen peas, till they are cooked through, then stick in a couple of tablespoons of creme fraiche to make the sauce, turn it up so it bubbles, put your cooked pasta in and stir in some parmesan or cheddar and that's it!
kind of like the jamie oliver recipe but not so many ingredients

What makes it american-style?
Anything to make mince look mildly more interesting to the kids would be good
Hi newlywed - it's called that in the recipe and I absolutely love it: it has baked beans and maple syrup in it and goes as follows:
500 g lean minced beef
175 g diced onions
1 meat stock cube
1 tin of baked beans (14 oz)
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp maple syrup
salt & pepper
600 g potatoes
60-75 ml low-fat fromage frais
(some fresh thyme for garnish - optional)
Fry mince and onion together until browned (this is also a 'low-fat' recipe, so no extra butter or oil is called for for frying). Add the baked beans, worcestershire sauce and maple syrup to the meat and onion. Crumble in the stock cube. Simmer for about 10 minutes, add a little water if needed. Season with black pepper.
Meanwhile, make the topping by boiling the potatoes and mashing them with fromage frais (add a little potato water if the mash is too firm).
Transfer the meat mixture to a serving dish, top with the mash and grill until potato starts to brown.
Enjoy! This serves 4, and if you use extra-lean mince, the calorie count per serving is 424."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0
