Hiya Tasha-debt and good luck with your new diary.
YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

really....it's not hard to understand :T
  • I was planning to go and meet a friend of mine who is traveling the world with a friend, in Thailand in Feb, but have decided that I cant afford to go and the trip is getting expensive now.

I called her to tell her and she is now very p****d off with me. She said that I should just live a bit and have fun, I have explained that I am trying to clear my debts but she is still in the mentality that you should life to the full (half her travelling has been paid for by Credit card). I fell really bad that I have let her down but I need to put clearing my debt before a trip. I said to her once my debts are clear (if ever) I will have the cash to save for another trip somewhere.

Its so hard being a money saver when people around you still expect you to be like you used to be and spend spend spend.

What have other people done so taht they dont lose their friendships as they dont do all teh things they used to do???

I’m back and more determined than ever!!!!!

Hi tasha, your diary is great and you seem to be doing really well. I totally sympathise with you having to cancel your trip to see your friend and its a real bummer that she is now p*ssed off with you. I empathise with you as my family and most of my close friends live 300 miles from me so it can get very expensive for me to go home for visits. I don't have a car, so have to hire a car (family live in the sticks), cost £150 plus petrol plus any money I spend when I am home. I can't afford to do it more than every 3 or 4 months. My close family don't mind as they know its expensive but I do feel very guilty. My friends want me to come home more often but it is hard. I do secretly get fed up too because no one ever thinks to come and visit me in London

Sorry to hijack your thread with my own woes, its just all so hard isn't it?

    Have a lovely weekend.

    Percy

    Hiya
Hope you don't mind me posting - just popped in to say good luck to you and well done for putting off the Thailand trip - that is sensible - just stay strong and don't give in to your friend. I'm sure once your friend has had time to think about it, she will realise you are being sensible and if she is a true friend she will still be there for you, so don't be pressurised into taking trips you simply cannot afford. Stay strong!
    Good luck

  • Hi Tasha,

If she's a good friend, she'll get over it - she's probably just a bit disappointed not to be going with you.

It is difficult when other people don't get why your doing your moneysaving, but you really, really did the right thing in not going. I've priced up a holiday in Thailand (planning to save up for it once I'm debt free) and it aint cheap. The last think you need is hundreds of pounds more debt!

Well done you for being strong & making the tough decision.

Just think, once you've got rid of the debts, you can save up and enjoy a Thailand trip, which will be even better knowing you've already paid for it and it's not costing you a penny in interest! :D

Keep up the good work
  • Thank you for your replys, its very good advice.

Percy, maybe you should tell your friends that even though you cant afford to go up and visit that often they are welcome to come and visit you in London. Invite them down for a weekend when their is some kind of free event going on some where. Its hard isnt it to balance your friends and your money.

I know it was the sensible thing to do, cancel the trip. But I feel so guilty and I know my friend was really looking forward to me coming out to see her....... and I would be upset if it was the other way round.

She doesn't know about me paying my parents tax bill, if she ever calls me or answer's the phone I would tell her..........

Had to try really hard at the weekend not to spend money as I was feeling upset that my friend won't talk to me and usally if anything bad happens I buy my self things to cheer myself up. So I spent the weekend playing with my nephew and visiting my boyfriends sister and her baby.

Still didnt cheer me up though......

  • I have just eaten an entire box of Jaffa cakes...................

Waste of money as they we supossed to last the week and I am on a diet.

I’m back and more determined than ever!!!!!
  • Hi Tasha,

Congratulations on tackling your debts, I'm sure you will succeed in your targets!

I've always thought that Jaffa Cakes should only be sold individually because, once a pack's open, it's impossible not to eat them all!!! :-)
