Rosie and Maisie, I'm so sorry to hear your news. :(
I really hope 2010 brings all of us better health and happiness! x x x

I restarted my diary 7 days ago (I'm so happy I did it all in pencil lol), and something seems to be clicking this time. I've done some form of exercise everyday, and have been drinking loads of water.

The only thing I've really done any different is listen to the CD on waking up instead of going to sleep. As soon as it finishes, I get up, stretch and then exercise.
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T
  • rosie and Guapa, you both sound really motivated. The last two days I've done better too; that's a good idea to listen to the CD on waking - I listen to it at night but am sometimes so shattered I fall straight asleep and I doubt any of it really regsiters.

    Hi all

well trying to stick with Paul's golden rules but finding it a bit difficult today as its my time of the month and my low iron levels are making things a wee bit difficult. I am craving chocolate like mad and to be honest am just having whatever I fancy, so its probably undoing some of the good work I have done earlier this month.

Anyway 5 days to weigh in and if I have stayed the same I will be happy at this stage.

Good to see you back Rosie

Hi all, can I join in? :hello:

I first heard about the Paul McKenna system from Nelski when I visited her in May and was really impressed by how much weight she had lost.

Unlike some of you I have never been a yo-yo dieter - I just don't do diets as I don't think they'll work. Until about 6 years ago (when I was 25) I could eat pretty much whatever I felt like - I had an annual "cycle" where because of the way my lifestyle varied in a typical year, I'd gain half a stone in the summer, lose it in the autumn, gain it in the winter and lose it in the spring. Then one autumn I didn't lose any weight and have just been steadily piling it on ever since.

Prior to that I'd fluctuated between about 10.5 and 11 stone - I think (I didn't really take much notice of it TBH) - and was always a dress size 12-14 (am very curvy and very much doubt I'm "meant" to be anything less than a 12). Then 2 years ago at 13st 1lb I half-heartedly thought I'd better do something about it - did nothing - kept eating (wolfing down huge portions), never got into a proper exercise routine (faithfully went to the gym for a bit, lost 5lbs, but lost interest and put it all back on again), kept knocking back wine every evening. In the last couple of months I've started realising that every garment I wear makes me look fat, which makes me think it's probably not the garments' fault...

So, sent off for the PM book & CD from Amazon, which arrived yesterday. I suppose I've already started doing it, though I haven't really started counting from Day 1 yet as I haven't read the book properly (I listened to the CD last night when I went to bed and - after getting the giggles a couple of times - fell fast asleep within five minutes :o)

The other thing I did today was get weighed. Officially, at the gym (yes, the gym, which I pay a monthly fee for and haven't been within 100 yards of for nearly a year), by a professional, so as to be "official". 13st 12lbs!  Right, that's IT, there is NO WAY I'm going over 14 stone and NO WAY I am ever going to buy a garment in larger than a size 16.

So here I am. And I'll let you know how I get on.

First observation: Weirdly, I haven't fancied a glass of wine at all this evening! I'm a bit addicted to white wine - not addicted to the alcohol, but to the taste and the general fact that I associate it with relaxing, IYKWIM (?) - and usually if I am home by mid evening, I either have a glass or two straight away or sit there thinking "I really fancy a glass of wine... no, I really shouldn't... oh go on then..." and if I don't have one, I feel like I'm depriving myself. This evening it's only even crossed my mind because I've been sitting here typing this!

  • Hi Bargain Rzl and welcome!

The CD is weird at first, isn't it? I find it a great way to get to sleep now.

Re. the wine - have you thought of adding fizzy water to make a spritzer? Then you can still have a large glass. I do this and got used to the taste difference straight away, but then I'm a lightweight when it comes to alcohol and don't like strong drinks anyway.

    Anyway, good luck!

    Hi Snow White,

Spritzers are definitely a good idea! I always have fizzy water in the fridge (I buy those big value-brand 2 litre bottles for 10-12p) as I usually drink lime cordial and fizzy water instead of plain water.

So far this eating what I feel like eating is costing me a fortune :o Yesterday morning I woke up, took one look at the sorry bowl of home-made butternut squash soup I'd been defrosting overnight, and thought "no way am I going to fancy eating THAT at lunchtime" - ended up getting a takeaway lunch of Moroccan meatballs with rice and salad. Then last night I went to a concert and was hungry by the end (with at least a 40 minute journey home ahead of me) so went to M&S and bought some lovely biscuits (pistachio and almond cookies  ) which I nibbled my way through 2 (?) of on the way home - they're now sitting on my desk at work. Also at that M&S I got some dark chocolate-covered ginger biscuits for "later". Today, nothing in the freezer but more of that soup (and bolognese sauce, which I hadn't made up any pasta to go with) so resigned myself to another takeaway lunch. I work just down the road from Borough Market so had a gorgeous garlic prawn tortilla wrap... Also both yesterday and today I fancied a bacon roll for breakfast (instead of the usual porridge).

So 2 days in (and officially I haven't even started yet!) and I've spent £17.89  which would normally feed me for at least five days :o Still I am sure I will end up spending a bit less in the long run.

I am finding it very easy not to snack unless I am actually hungry... I haven't yet managed to not finish a meal, but to be honest I have been having quite small portions so that doesn't really surprise me. If I get through a small portion of something and am still hungry after giving it a couple of minutes, I have a biscuit.

Will put a decent, interesting loaf on in the breadmaker overnight so I can have my favourite sardines on toast for breakfast tomorrow if I fancy :)

    Hi All

Welcome Bargin Rzl and good luck with the system.

Had my weigh in today and I was totally shocked to see I had lost 1.5lbs. I couldn't beleive it as I have really eaten like a pig for the past four to five days. Although in saying that I have always felt 'hungry' and haven't eaten beyond the full up feeling but nonetheless I have eaten a load of rubbish such as crips, chocolates, puddings and cakes which I don't normally eat very much off.

Anyway I am happy with a loss and looking forward to applying the PMK principles a bit better over the next two weeks. Next weigh in planned for 31st Jan which gives me 15 days.

Good luck all and hope everyone else is doing ok.
  • Hi Maisie (well done on the loss!) and Bargin Rzl,

That's a bit annoying that the first couple of days have cost you so much, Bargin Rzl, but maybe once you settle into the programme things'll improve. I know I spent a lot less on supermarket food a few weeks into the programme as I was eating less so didn't need to stock up as much. If you're near Borough Market I can see why you might be spending more though. Maybe stock up on some (non-perishible) items from the supermarket that you can carry round in your handbag or keep at work for when you feel peckish? I'm not talking boring cup-a-soups and bananas, but tasty things like Eat Natural bars, peanuts, Japanese rice crackers, dark chocolate, dried berries etc. Holland and Barratt will have things like that too and they're not too expensive if you buy them in bulk.

    Hope this helps!

Just been on a loooong walk so feeling very virtuous, can't wait to tell Paul :rotfl:

Oh yes... and I ordered myself a copy of Beyond Chocolate.

I also recommend How to break Free from Emotional Eating by Geneen Roth if that's the sort of thing that you do.

I am trying to ease myself back into PMK. I can't carry on the way I am and I really need to start focusing on what I put in my mouth. Still not drinking enough water though - this is probably one of my biggest issues. I am more likely to have food if I think I "might" be hungry rather than a drink tsk tsk.......

Anyway am aiming for positive 2010 :D
