  • I don't even know if they do different sorts of Routers......this one I bought needs to plug into the phoneline box.....I'm cable..so it comes through a cable???!?!?

Not sure if this will help, but my Mum has cable and I had to get her a wireless router - she had a wired one connected to the cable as it came into the house. I got her one from Curry's and all I had to do was connect the new one to the old one, and then to her computer. I'll try to explain what I did so it makes sense.
    • The old modem was wired to the main Virgin internet cable and had another cable coming from it which went to my mum's computer (not wireless) We had to keep this because of the virgin cable
    • I had to take the cable from the computer and plug it into the back of the new wireless modem's 'in' socket (?) so that it could receive the virgin signal from the old modem - in essense she now has 2 modems.
    • I then had to run a new cable (came with the new modem) to the computer from one of the 4 'out' sockets (?) at the back of the new modem to allow it to 'register' it with the computer - I think you have to connect with a wire first on any modem before you can go wireless.
    • She can now use it wired or wireless
Hope that makes sense and helps - not sure what the in and out bits are called (as you can tell) but am sure you understand what I mean. Hope I'm not preaching to the converted as you may have already tried this, but thought it might help if you haven't...

I have a wireless connection. Got the modem plugged into the mains for power and into the phone line. Then I have a wireless port thing into the back of my computer. My cable port doesn't work on my router so it's wireless or nothing here.

JennyBee...have you tried lying it out in the bath and scrubbing it?

That was my next plan of action....guess I was just being lazy and hoping for a magic solution that meant I didn't have to do that!!!

oh.....(hanging my head in shame) I have started on my recipe book bookcase in the kitchen and found a good food magazine from May 2004....why do I still have that? There aren't even any recipes that I want in there! I am (in case you hadn't noticed!) a bit of a hoarder....

:rotfl: Just realised....in May 2004 I'd only known my OH 6 weeks....we're now married and having a baby! I need to declutter way more often!!

Grrr, just lost a post. Suffice to say going into work a bit late again, got my thermals on!

gertrudeanna - there are diff modems/routers for cable and adsl (BT), I think that with cable you prob just need a router but with bt it's a modem router....but it might have changed since i did mine. Worth nipping to the tech board to ask - they are very friendly and helpful over there!

Will do the kitchen tonight plus the microwave as it's a bit manky!

It actually looks to be a lovely day outside, cold I bet but I have thermals!!Am going to try walking the last bit of my journey today if there's no train in 3 mins as I think it might be quicker and better for me!

Also to say if anyone who is trying to get fit would like a free pack to encourage them to walk more and track their walking, PM me and I can help you.
