Do you think they'll complain if I write it out and stick it around the kitchen?[/quote]

    I doubt they'll even notice!

GnB - just found this on a site called Debt Wizard...don't know if it's of any help (sure you've already looked into it)

Is there a helpline telephone number I can call for advice?
    Yes, 0845 302 1444
Am I covered by the bank if a fraudster takes my money or sets up other bogus loan accounts?

The British Bankers Association, BBA, say that under their code victims of fraud will be reimbursed, however, every case will be judged upon its merits. But in reality you should be covered.

And this from the MSE site...

Do I need ID fraud insurance?
No no no no NO! An entire industry has built up selling us the fear of ID fraud and then trying to sell us insurance against it! In some ways these companies are almost, although not quite, as bad as the fraudsters themselves. Most non-high net worth individuals don’t need to pay for these expensive insurance policies; while ID fraud is a hassle, you're covered by the banks unless you're culpable.

Thanks for finding that, he is going into his branch tomorrow to try and sort it out. Its just such a hassle.

  • Apparently he would need fraud prevention insurance or something like that?? I dont know much about that kind of thing either.
I have had my card cloned twice. Apparently they crunch numbers until they come up with one that works. The first time it happened I noticed it, small but regular payment to O2 PAYG, card stopped immediately and money refunded, (Have to report it to police etc and I did'nt have insurance) turned out it was being done by someone in Leeds!!!! The police down here would have prosecuted but it Leeds it was written off!

The second time my bank alerted me due to a strange donation for £5.08 to red cross (apparently they look out for these kind of payments as the gangs test the nos. out by making donations to charities for small amounts) They cancelled my card immediately and I heard no more.

Seems that different banks to different things. Mine is A&L.
The problem with common sense is its not very common:rotfl:

He's with Halifax, he got the money back that they took, think it was indonesia. They tried to claim he was liable and told him he had to prove he wasnt there, he doesnt even have a passport !!!!!!! They are not very sympathetic. He is thinking of closing his account with them.
