That's good to know CS - i'm hoping as I get rid of the swelly belly it will shrink a bit. The problem is, the more I fly the bigger it gets. If I do too much will I end up with a 3 foot scar....i'd better go and sit and do nothing for a bit longer :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: xx0 -

I'm feeling completely overwhelmed by the state of my house and I need some help. :oThe big problem is where to get started.....
......every room is a mess, I'm up to my eyes in paperwork that needs sorting out as well as all my cleaning etc and find myself just going in circles not actually getting anything done.
First question is - does anyone else ever feel like this?
Second q is - where do I start? I really need some help with this as I'm just getting into a worse mess in the house. Every night I go to bed and promise myself I'll make a start on it but it just doesnt happen...
Some background info - I'm home all day - I'm studying for a degree with the OU and I don't go out to work. I do a bit of work from home as and when it comes in (not very often at the mo!). So I feel really guilty
that I'm getting less done around the house than I did when I had a much bigger house, an OH who was useless with housework and I also worked full time and with the commute I was doing a 13/14 hour day.
These days it's just me, a smaller house, and not going out to work.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.0 -
HH62.......... we all feel like that at some point. I know I do most days.
Best advice I was given when starting flying was 'baby steps'. Do one thing at a time and you'll begin to see the benefits.
Why not choose one room to focus on, maybe the one that needs the least doing to it, or even part of a room. And do it in stages. My kids room was a mess after we moved in here so I took the plunge and dumped everything on the beds, dysoned the carpet and went from there. Half hour bursts, 15 minutes rest and I had it done in one day.
Good luck, we are here to support and encourage. Dont be afraid to rant either lolAn' It Harm None, Do As Thou Will

:hello:Hi pollybear - does your DD think there's a washing fairy? :DI'm pretty sure the other occupants of my house believe in one too...
:hello:Hi dusty - love the comment about your DS in ICT! I actually haven't had that happen yet, but I know he emails OH - yesterday to request a bid on an ebay item...fairly sure that isn't an A level requirement.
indigostar - there are certain Flyladies who have a very organised approach to laundry, and insist on hanging out items in a certain order and with matching pegs. You don't have to join in.
Well, making slow progress here. I have:
delivered DS1 and 2 to school
delivered DD to school at break
collected DS1 from school at break (to be returned after lunch)
washed up
cleaned the cloakroom
done two loads of washing
sorted out the clean aired washing from the airing cupboard (well, actually DS1 did that as I cannot remember whose boxers/socks/t shirts are whose...)
deleted emails
drunk two cups of coffee
caught up with the thread
(can you sense I'm getting desperate to add things to make the list look more impressive??)
Right, I'll whizz the vacuum round the ground floor. The livingroom is pretty much okay, as it was cleaned when we took the decorations down, and all the clutter is staying upstairs in main bedroom until the carpet is laid (20th - really looking forward to it!)It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0 -
HH62 - yeah we all feel like that sometimes, it's not as bad as you make it sound, I'm sure.
I expect Toots will be along soon with the welcome speech but just take it one step at a time, personally I'd start with a clean kitchen as it makes you smile eveytime you go in there and once clean is relatively easy to keep that way as tends to get less cluttered!
Babysteps as they say, a little at a time and it'll get better, honest.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Speaking as a complete non expert who only joined in this week...I have found...following the list on the front page is the way forward....tackle little bits at a time and try and keep them tidy once you've done them. Then when you've actually got a bathroom or kitchen or even just a kitchen cupboard tidy you can allow yourself to feel proud for having done it! do not try and do it all at once as you'll end up running around like a headless chicken and get nothing done at all! By focussing on one area at a time you can start to see the difference immediately.
Filing is my worst thing as well, I have to get that sorted out but Rome wasn't built in a day
And by the way, yes...completely overwhelmed is a common feeling between me and housework!!!
I'm considering having a cleaning rota up in the kitchen and giving myself a little gold star every time I empty the dishwasher straight away or something like that!Jonathan Douglas born 20th January 2009 - 9lb 4oz
