Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts I've been Money Tipped!
Rang them up today to see if I'd "got in" in time (last minute submission ).
The guy said yes, all fine and I would hear from them in due course.

An hour or so later, I got a call from the same guy asking me for my address details and phone number as they hadn't got a note of them  I stressed that I definitely wrote all this out on the form and asked how he'd managed to ring us without the number ... he said he'd managed to track it down. He said it was probably the case that all the details had not been scanned into the computer ... probably 'cos they've been inundated.

A bit worrying ... I asked what would have happened if I hadn't rung and he admitted it would have delayed things considerably, though I would (hopefully) have still been accepted!
    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

    MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS

I know that the voluntary Banking Code is planned to be replaced by obligations in law. For what it's worth, Close Brothers is not covered by the Banking Code.

    http://www.bankingcode.org.uk/subscriberlist.php

But given the organisations that do subscribe to the Banking Code (ie the likes of Abbey, Barclays etc) and the rubbish service they provide, I don't think it's a concern that Close Bros don't subscribe to it as the Banking Code doesn't seem to count for anything. It doesn't mean that you can't lodge a complaint with the Ombudsman if needed.

Sent in our cheque etc. on 9th January but still haven't heard anything from Close Bros, and the cheque hasn't been cashed. Is anyone else in the same situation?
Close Bros. say they are still processing applications but 10 days on and my missus is worried some tea leaf at the Post Office has snaffled our application form which, of course, contains loads of personal information, a bank statement etc - ideal for identity theft.
    thanks
    Rog:confused:

Yes, I'm in the same boat. I've had rather a lot of money sitting in my current account for 2 weeks to cover my cheque and despite 3 phone calls to them they are still unable to say whether they have received or if my account will be opened. I'd seen good reviews of their customer service before opening but I am not impressed by this. I know they must have been inundated but surely they could have just sent all the cheques off immediately. The trouble is at the time there were alternative bonds available but now there's nothing comparable.

Quite! The service I received from shabby Abbey was the worst I've received from any company ever, which is why none of my family now banks with them. The service I have so far received from Close Brothers (from the past few months, I didn't go for this 5% deal) has been exemplary, instant response to questions, everything done as asked.

Depends what you want, but from my point of view, the two private banks I use offer a service level infinitely better than anything I have ever received from a high-street bank/BS - I've never looked back.

If people are worried if money arrived in time, and were sending just up to the cut off date, surely they would have sent it Special Delivery, to ensure it arrived and have a receipt to prove it?

I'm also in the same boat. Sent my cheque 9th January also, rang them up last Thursday, 15th, guy had all my records on file, even asked for the telphone password - and said that application would eventually be processed, presuming I'd satisfied all the money-laundering requirements etc. My cheque still sitting in current account waiting to be cashed.

I wish now I had asked if they backdated interest.

I also have money sitting in my current account - as I hand-delivered it on the 13th I know they have my application. It is worrying though and I keep checking my balance to see if it has gone. It will be interesting to see if they do back-date the interest.
  • Dealt with Close Treasury a couple of times.

With 1st account, sent application via post & funds via BACS transfer.

2nd account opened simply by BACS using customer number as reference - no other paperwork.

No problems with them then or since - first rate service IMO.

It's not unreasonable to expect some delays in cheque processing on popular accounts if they're sent last minute.
  • My application and my Mother in Laws application were posted first class Friday 9th January (separate envelopes)

Money taken from both accounts (different banks) today.

    So keep checking your accounts

I missed out by a day.

Sent my stuff in, and received them back within a day (Special Delivery) saying I had missed the dead line..

    Shame..
Each document I sent has a scanning time and date on the rear, so they must scan everything in and process electronically?
