    Cheers Alanq.

With the 5% offering over the next uncertain two years, I am going to take the plunge and give them some of my hard earned cash...

Any last minute doubters that can instruct otherwise??
  • Just rang them regarding the "photocopy" of bank statement required with the application. As my account is internet based only

They will accept a printed statement so long as they can match it up to a cheque accompanying the application.

Answered within 3 rings, the person there was solely to answer questions about this account, extremely helpful. Very impressed.

From my experience a great company to deal with, e-mail them and get a reply back very quickly, they are part of the large Close Brothers Group: http://www.closebrothers.co.uk

If you are unsure of the FSCS coverage ring the FSCS and check, but from my point of view they are fully covered, but I'm not suggesting you don't do your own research!

    From their website:

"Close Brothers Limited ("the Bank") is a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme established under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.
Most depositors, including individuals and small firms, are covered. The Scheme covers deposits made with the offices of the Bank within the European Economic Area and deposits denominated in all currencies are treated alike. For further details of the Scheme, including the current compensation limits payable, please contact the FSCS on 020 7892 7300 or visit www.fscs.org.uk."

for those who do not pay tax

    http://www.closetreasury.co.uk/PremiumGold2ApplicationForms.htm

    states that
'If you are entitled to receive interest gross, then please complete and return a HMRC R85 form (One is required for each depositor and must be received with your application in order to receive interest gross of lower rate tax)'

but how can I fill the r85 form in as it asks for your account number if the account has not been opened and so I do not know the account number :rotfl:

Leave the account number blank on R85 - they will complete it. Send a covering letter with application stating you have left it blank so they can complete when they assign an account number on opening.

also I'm finding it a bit strange that the only form of ID they want is a bank statement.
  • I too got the 7% rate a while ago - went into their offices in the city of London which they opened specially on a Sunday to cope with the demand!!

Was personally seen by an employee in the reception area who checked my docs and application form to ensure no probs.

So far very inmpressed (assuming the money turns up with interest at the end of the year!!)

Have money maturing with NR but until 20th so looks like I'll miss out on this 5% offer .......

I also had the same experience as Stevek above. I received an email yesterday about this new promotion and it had a paying in slip attached so I could just send off a cheque if I wanted to take advantage of this new off and it also gave details of how I could pay by BACS.

Very efficient, no need to fill in another application form

I know that the voluntary Banking Code is planned to be replaced by obligations in law. For what it's worth, Close Brothers is not covered by the Banking Code.
