Well I've just got home to find two letters from Halifax CC waiting for me. Both are dated 5th Feb. One says 'thank you for your recent correspondence (I persume they mean my letter asking them to hold any charges for interest or charges for 28 days whilst I get my finances reviewed), I can confirm we have cancelled your direct debit. Please ensure future payments are made on time' blah blah blah. The other says 'your bank has returned your recent direct debit to us. Under the terms and conditions we have debited a £12 administation fee.'

Is this a case of left hand not knowing what right hand are doing? I've had about 5 calls today from them but just didn't answer.

I guess this is just the start of it

    Oh well............

On the plus side.... my CC reclaim letters are typed and ready to go. I just need to make sure I leave work early enough tomorrow to get them sent recorded delivery.

Watch this space for updates!

I've just posted on one of the other boards to find out people's opinion as to whether I would still be able to make credit card reclaims even if I'm probably going to be on a DMP. Hopefully the answer will be yes and that will be some extra money I can put towards my debts. I've done quite well on ebay over the last week so all of that is getting put to one side ready for.... well I'm not sure what until I've spoke to CCCS on Thursday!

Just to note CREDIT CARD CHARGES RECLAIMING IS NOT ON HOLD! Sorry for the caps but I didn't want you to miss it. It is only reclaiming bank charges that are on hold. So start sending off those requests for 6 years of statements asap :D

Edited to add, sorry i didn't see the last two posts Doh! So sorry for repeating what you already know

All went very well yesterday thanks! Spoke to a lovely guy from CCCS who was very helpful and non judgemental. MY debt free date will be in ten years time  . However, that will be quicker than if I just kept paying the minimum balances every month. I'm trying to focus on the here and now and not be dragged down by how long away 2019 seems! But as the guy from CCCS said my circumstances will change quite a bit when my son goes to Uni and my fixed rate mortgage ends so it may be that my debt free date will be sooner. I think I'm going to start my DMP on 1st May. It's ironic but due to the fact I've only made token payments to my creditors I've actually saved some money for the first time in years! He also suggested I don't pay off the overdraft as it will only change my debtfree date by 2 months. So thats another £1k into my emergency fund. I'll keep ebaying as much as I can and also squirrel that away so that if the time ever comes when I can make a F&F settlement I will have something behind me to do so :T

Hope you had a great birthday  (couldn't find wine glasses!)

  • I'm glad things are looking a litte better for you. We just now need to keep focussed and not allow ourselves to wander off the path to debtfreedom!

Morning! I think that is going to be the problem because of the time involved but I'm sure with the help of everyone on here we will make it.

I've already had a call (8.20am) this morning from Lloyds TSB!!!

They must think I have a very busy life because they can never get hold of me... wonder if they every get bored and give up? I think I know the answer to that one! lol

  • Hi,

I only got to page 3 of this thread so forgive me if someone has already said what I have to say:

Firstly, well done :T for taking a good look and your situation and making some positive steps towards fixing it. There is always a solution no matter how scary it seems.

Some suggestions that helped me when I had my LBM:

Have you incurred any charges from credit cards or bank accounts? I claimed mine back and because I could prove that I was in finacial difficulty they had to reveiw my case (ie. essential outgoings exceeding income). I got £2600 after only 6 weeks of claiming. I have some on going claims of over £5000 that are taking a bit longer but I will get there in the end. Look into it, it's all on this site how to do it.:money: Once you get over the shock and anger  at how much you have paid in unfair charges, it is very empowering being able to do something about it.:j

Also, I put a load of unwanted items on ebay that were either going to go on the tip or to the charity shop. I made over £400 the first month and not generally made £50 to £150 per month selling unwanted items. It's great to have a clear out as well as it makes you feel so much better.

I hope my suggestions help and really wish you good luck! It'll all be alright in the end.
