My SOA - Gulp! Lightbulb moment!!

  • Thanks Totally. I appreciate your comments - I am the only earner, hubby is a house husband and he looks after the kids. I go back to work in March. I pay all bills, he has no income and no debts. I don't really want to hijack St0lli's thread, posted my SOA so we could compare. We have high BT broadband costs due to downloading and can't get Sky broadband due to our location. I will not be buying presents for the remaining time that I am on low income, agreed! Just trying to show St0lli that she's not alone in her quest to get out of debt. I joined Freecycle last month and have made full use of it - it's great! Well done on clearing some of your debt Totally - I can't wait until my signature looks like that too! :D

Sorry I didn't read properly that you were just doing it for comparison.

Well the good thing for you then is at the End of March you will be able to pay all your monthly commitments and have a good amount for things like presents, emergency fund and overpayments on your debts.

I would suggest that you get your gas and electric upto date then you can look into comparison swapping.
Then pay off the catalogues. You could have Littlewoods paid off in April's pay packet freeing up £100 to put towards the next one. Once all catalogues paid off then overpay on the highest interest credit card.

Good luck as a working Mum myself it is hard. Although you have piece of mind that your children are with their father and not a minder.
  • Hi St0lli
Hope yr having a good weekend. Sorry about the thread diversion - everyone loves a good SOA (;) ). Have you made any progress this week/weekend?

Hi Kin, I've had a very quiet weekend. Had a no spend day yesterday! Was hoping to have another one today but I succumbed to a newspaper - how decandent! :D

I've just posted on one of the other boards to find out people's opinion as to whether I would still be able to make credit card reclaims even if I'm probably going to be on a DMP. Hopefully the answer will be yes and that will be some extra money I can put towards my debts. I've done quite well on ebay over the last week so all of that is getting put to one side ready for.... well I'm not sure what until I've spoke to CCCS on Thursday!

Had a minor set back in as much as I thought I had paid off my Next account - only £39 owing but I thought I had paid it online but I obviously didn't press the confirm button! Now have to pay that... oh well it could be worse I guess.

Hope is well with you and your family!

Doomcow - unfortuantely the rental prices around here aren't much cheaper. My mortgage was set up in July last year before interest rates started to fall so even if I wanted to move I would incur MEGA penalty charges.

Why do you have to speak to cccs on thursday before spending you ebay earnings. I would suggest that you get rid of the Next debt and close the account. If you have enough I would consider paying off the Natwest credit card and getting rid.
It's not the highest interest debt but you appear to have all big debts on the highest interest. So in this case paying say £500 onto one of the higest debts will not make a dent in it. So I think you should see how many debts you can clear or reduce ready for your meeting with cccs.
If the extra income was going to be regular then I would save it and mention it to the cccs but it isn't is it?

TB - think there has been some misunderstanding as I am going to pay off the Next account today, the money is already in my account to pay it I just forgot to pay the bill. My natwest bill is now paid off as well.
You are right the income isn't going to be regular... I'm just selling off some things I no longer want or need. I assumed that CCCS would need to be made aware of it as on my SOA it mentions savings....

I'll post an update when I've spoken to them on Thursday and I'll also update my SOA prior to my meeting with them.

  • Quiet weekend here too. A couple of calls from Littlewoods and Capital One (which I didn't answer as I couldn't be bothered telling them I'd written) and collected some stuff from a fellow Freecycler. Made a lovely chicken casserole on Sunday and my son didn't eat a single mouthful. He's a troublesome eater and it is starting to bother me - especially the fact that we don't have the money to buy his faddy foods and to see all that lovely fresh food/vegetables go to waste. If he had his way he would eat biscuits, toast and 'pink' milk all day.

Was hoping my bank would call today to say they would waive the bank charges but no such luck. I keep fantasising about mentioning the RBS bonuses and all the hoohah going on in the press about that at the moment - but that might not be conducive to getting my charges waived so will have to remain a fantasy for now!

Please do pursue the reclaiming of cc charges - I think it's credit cards that were ruled to be unfair and you have a good chance of getting something back there.

Fantastic Ebay earnings! It's not really savings is it - more sort of cash in hand. Use it for a birthday treat if you or your son have one coming up!

I'm beginning to feel quite popular at the moment with the amount of times my phone rang over the weekend. Shame the calls were from First Assist Halifax (?), TSB and a withheld number - none of which I answered.

I'm going to take some time tonight to prepare my letters to reclaim credit card charges which will prove interesting. Can only afford to send a couple as I need to attach the ten pounds cheque with each of them :(

My mortgage is currently over 12 years so at the end of the fixed term I would like to see if I can continue with the same payments but change to a repayment mortgage instead of the interest only I have at the moment. Thats the plan at the moment anyway

Feel a bit fed up with it all today as I've just received my first statements with missed payments and the usual narrative about how the accounts will incur charges etc etc etc. But..... I've got my appointment with CCCS to look forward to on Thursday so I'm hoping I will feel more positive again after that.

Was going to see about changing my fuel supplier but I think Martin's advice is to hold off changing at the moment.

Oh, I had another No Spend Day today!! YAY! :T
