Your son is a couple of months short of being old enough to join the army, travel to foreign lands and shoot people dead. I think he can manage to be alone in his own house with a lodger for the occasional couple of hours and survive.

Generally speaking, people looking for Mon-Fri lodgings are likely to work late themselves, or go out for a drink in the local area. They're more likely to keep themselves to themselves and probably more interested in looking through paperwork they brought home from the office than leaping out and shouting "BOO!" at your boy.

For taking strangers in, if you choose to accommodate professionals in their 30-50s only, you're most likely to have the easiest life ever.

They're "people like you and I". Quiet, hard-working professionals; they have to work away from where they live and just want to get their head down.

I love your posts, PN! They always make me laugh. (I'd thank you, but that option isn't available to me at the minute. Perhaps I'll do it on a future occasion when you deserve it less..!)

I'm glad someone loves his post.... I think PN has got totally the wrong end of the stick. He doesn't know enough about me or my son to make this statement. Due to my job I'm also well aware of the types of people who want to lodge from Mon-Fri and I agree that 99,9% of them are absolutely fine but as I'm often at work until late I still don't want my son in the house with someone who to all intents and purposes is a total stranger.

Plus I also thought this forum was for support and not to make judgement on how I decide to bring up my child?

    Things still need to do
I need to ring Virgin to see if I can get them to match sky for telephone and 02 for broadband

Hi, not sure if you've got around to this yet, but if you have Sky TV then that is the cheapest way to get phone and broadband. If I recall correctly Sky will even pay for BT to re-connect the line - worth a phone call!

Hi Forris, thanks for the suggestion. I need to update my SOA as I went down the BT route and agreed to change to them. They then contacted Virgin who have now matched the cheaper offer. Thanks

  • Morning
Just had to write to RBS as they denied a DD on my (unusable) current account yesterday, even though I have been phoning them every day to transfer money accross to pay DDs. Charged me £38 for the pleasure and have sent me over my overdraft limit - so another £28 charges to come for that. Totally unhelpful on the phone, stated something about all bank charge reclaiming on hold so they have no leeway to refund any charges no matter what the circumstances. So I sat down last night after a few tears and tantrums at home and wrote a long, honest begging letter to the branch manager about how £64 in charges right now would send me into utter hardship. Also asked them to please let me view my account online as this situation wouldn't have happened if I could transfer the money online. (so by their own actions, they have made themselves £64 out of me!!) Posting it today - let's see how I get on eh?
"I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something"
  • PS. - interesting to see RBS in the news last night - £20bn borrowed from the Govt, £8bn losses and still wanting to pay out bonuses!! Give me back my money first!!!!

Oh Kim that is so unfair. I do feel for you and like you said if you were able to view your account online and make transfers then this situation may not have happened. I can't believe they will insist on you paying those charges although nothing ceases to amaze me after reading on here how some people get treated by banks etc.

Don't let the barstewards get you down. Easier said than done I know! If you are like me you will go from times of feeling totally in control and pleased with how you are handling things to feelings of total despair.

Please keep positive and remember we can do with this with each others support and with the support of others on here.

As you can see I am in pretty dire straights at the moment. That's why I have offered token payments to all unsecured creditors. Except RBS - I figured I can't not pay them as they take the loan repayment off me as soon as my wage goes in the account. Things will improve when I start earning again, but by then (March) I will have defaults, late payment, interest and charges accrued plus the increased interest on the CCs. It just piles on and on and on - and yes some days you think you can get through this and other days you despair (usually after receiving a nasty phone call or another demand letter). I guess I should have planned better, but I foolishly thought that I might be able to make my Christmas bonus last until March - it ran out on 1 January!
Anyway, this is what I have sent my creditors, so let's see how they react.

I've added comments in green. Please add in your partners income information. It's not a true soa without that information. It's hard to see where you can save if there is only half the wages or the bills are split in half.
