Hi Always Harrased I had terrible bother with an itchy scalp for over a year I tried all of the products above (not dissing them, hopefully they will work for you) but was still driven mad, fearing I would be mistaken for someone riddled with nit's I took myself off to the Dr who prescribed me Nizoral anti dandruff shampoo ( I didn't think I had dandruff) and it was the only thing that worked. I'm not sure but I think you can buy it in Boots, perhaps elsewhere.
    Booo!!!
  • BEER!!!!!!!!! trust me on this one.... and if you use home brew its cheaper than expensive shampoo.....
  • I have cured my scalp psoriasis and the awful itching that went with it by using shampoo that does not contain SLS. End of. Also, because it does not dry the hair and scalp out, you don't need conditioner. Bargain!

The one I use is called Jason, from the health shop, but there are others around.

Incidentally I started using toothpaste without SLS as well (by accident as it happens) and 30 + years of chronic gingivitis was gone within a week. Coincidence? I don't think so!

I've just (literally) tried this method. I read post earlier and - as my hair was due a wash - thought I'd give it a try. It was a bit more of a 'faff' than usual but I enjoyed a soak in the bath while the conditioner did its stuff :D. My hair certainly feels clean but I guess the real test will come once it's dry and I see how it goes over the next couple of days.
How was your hair when it dried northernstar?

I have very dry, thick, curly hair and might give conditioner only washing a go.

I'm tempted to do a conditioner only wash as even the baby shampoos leave me with dry skin and that 'tight' feeling. The only thing is I am prone to greasy hair and if I've put too much conditioner in my hair it makes it greasy.

I am trying and avoid shampoo with sls- it makes my hair dry, strips my color and makes my scalp tight. I tried naked shampoo as rec'd on this board & my hair went into a matted mess.
I only use shampoo evry other time I wash. The rest of the time I do conditioner only washes. It leaves my hair softer and more shiny. I also avoid conditioner with silicones such as dimethicone as they leave gunky build up in my hair.

Not sure if this was mentioned but you could try soap nuts, ask google or have a look at the following link, loads of info in internet and you can use them for other stuff as well

    I've been Money Tipped!
I gave Conditioner only a half hearted attempt last autumn, for the sake of my hair not my scalp which is pretty much ok. I have to admit my hair looked MUCH better on this regeime but I found I felt psychologically unclean, though neither hair nor scalp were actually dirty, and when I thought about it I felt itchy, although in reality it was not a physical itch . Having argued my curly hair into a plait today in despair at its increasing dryness, I'm going to give CO another whirl (only very time I think about it it I want one last shampoo).

Have a look at naturallycurly.com or read Lorraine massey's book, curly girl, to help uget your regime right with conditioner only washing.

You might be better off trying Palmolive shampoo as I suggested to someone else - even baby products have the dreaded SLS in them

Why anyone would want to wash a baby's head in something strong enough to clean the road-grease off a car is beyond me
