OMG I'm going to have to start taking my son seriously after reading this thread! He has been saying for a couple of years now that he thinks he must be allergic to shampoo. He reckons his head hurts and feels really tender after he's shampooed it. He rinses it well and has tried all sorts of shampoos and every one of them causes the same probs. He says it even hurts to put his head on his pillow after shampooing.0

Have tried E45 and Neutrogena products before and cannot use. Was told by the staff at Clinique that I am the only person who has had a reaction to their products. Tried Body Shop Aloe Vera and they guarantee no reaction and it brought me out in a rash. Historically I could use cheaper products like No17 and own makes like M&S. I reckon it has something to do with perfumes and they are not used in budget ranges.
Looked through some of the suggested websites this afternoon and then went to the shops with the intention of speaking to the pharmacist in Boots. Went into Superdrug and saw they had Organic Shampoo at £2.45 and even better was on a 2 for 1. Will give that a try.0 -
I've been using the Naked products (available in Boots) which seem far better for me - I don't get that 'tight' feeling anymore. Does anyone think that the chemicals in shampoos/conditioners actually cause scalp psoriasis (which I now have) or is it an age thing (menopausal)?
This link has just been put in another thread. http://blog.wellnesstips.ca/blog/index.php/?p=2070 -
Have you tried using a shampoo that doesn't contain sodium laurel/laureth sulphate? (its what makes shampoo/bubble bath/toothpaste etc foamy!! )
If you look at the list of ingredients on most of the above toiletries it's usually the second ingredient. SLS is a very strong detergent.
I've been using Palmolive shampoo for some time as it doesn't contain the above and I'm fine with it. I've also had adverse reactions to shampoo in the past, but found this works and is not expensive either.:wave:0 -

I have eczema on my scalp and I use the Lush shampoo bars with no hassle at all!
https://www.lush.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=428&category_id=487&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=80 - fantastic for flaky scalp and stops the itching.
There are quite a few different ones, and I suppose they don't all suit everyone, but I would say it's well worth a try.
Pop into store and they can give you a demo and try it on your skin to see if you get any kind of reaction.
Good Luck!0 -

Avoiding SLS in shampoo has also worked for me - I have a very sensitive scalp. I can use oliatum shampoo and Aveda scalp therapy. I'd recommend the aveda most since it smells niceIt is expensive but lasts a long time (£12 a bottle but you might be able to get a sample if you explain you have allergies)
edited to say thanks for the palmolive recc too, didn't know it was SLS free... most shampoos including all of the organic ranges, do have SLS as do most Lush bars as well!0 -
You could try Conditioner Only washing:

I've never tried it myself though so I can't vouch for it.
I've just (literally) tried this method. I read post earlier and - as my hair was due a wash - thought I'd give it a try. It was a bit more of a 'faff' than usual but I enjoyed a soak in the bath while the conditioner did its stuff. My hair certainly feels clean but I guess the real test will come once it's dry and I see how it goes over the next couple of days.

Always Harrassed
Have you tried using Spirit Soap? A friend put me on to this as a way of washing out any 'gunk' from your hair when the products form a build up and your hair has no shine, scalp feels itchy etc (her hairdresser had put her on to it). It is almost like a water consistency and you only need a blob about 5p size and it goes a long way. The nice thing is that when you rinse, your hair squeaks (although some may not think there is anything nice about squeaky hair ! lol). You need to go to the pharmacist counter to get this. I got mine from Superdrug and it was a large 500ml bottle a couple of years ago for about £3. I recommended it to my sister for my nephew who has a very sweaty head and as much as he washes his hair, his scalps gets a build up like cradle cap, and he is a teenager! Good luckI got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.0
