My wife and I are featured in the book so couldn't possibly comment on how good or bad it is, but put it this way I would imagine it will be coming to a pound shop near you soon.

Sean, I have seen your posts about Rene. Am I to take it that he turned up at the end of the year and filmed bits (like the 'what you own, what the bank owns') as if he was there at the start? If so was his place taken by other advisors?

Just wondered what people thought of last night pay off your mortgage with Duncan the ballet dancer?
I thought he was quite fun myself, but felt sorry for him the way Rene was having a go at him.
Sean Casey-Poole: Programme 1 in the series

I think his situation had great potential. I think he is a bit of a butterfly, that flutters round from idea to idea, & he really needs to focus & put his energy into his objective. As he appeared to be doing at the end of the programme.
As another thread writer said I felt at times "I could shake him".
I think the girl that helped him during the programme was the best thing that happened to him & would make a great business partner for him.
I enjoyed the show, but as he did not appear to be keeping his head above water financially, I don't think he is going to pay off his mortgage. But he has the product & skills that could potentailly do it if he channels them correctly. Does anyone remember the name of the website that he set up for his final venture, was it "urbanspirit"? As I can't find it.

    Cheers Madcow

    The website is: http://www.urban-activities.com/.

I think the new venture has plenty of potential. I just think that Duncan has to remain focused to achieve the goal. Otherwise, its back to relying on the parents. If he partners up with Claire it could be very successful. She seems to have her head screwed on the right way.

Next week's episode looks good, given the potential of £100K raised in the first couple of months.
    No Retreat, No Surrender
  • Good for Duncan on this - but he lacks the will power to crack on with the project, so good luck with Urban Activies (website could do with more content) - I am looking forward to next weeks one.

Overall this program like others here as given me the get up and go and look into a way of cutting mortgage down. It seems to me, that the message really is start a business in "what you know". Now in the 3rd program I just can not believe that a website for Jewellery Candy costs £2.5K! what am I doing wrong :D (time to brushen up HTML coding again)

For a 21 year old you have some strong opinions.
I truly believe we can think for ourselves, and as for go getters did you not watch our programme? We were first on.
I challenge you to do half of what we do, and your half my age.
Your only saving grace is you are intelligent enough to read and take part on a superb site like this.

But that's just when people do have strong opinions, isn't it? It's what being twenty-one is all about (I dimly remember supporting the Monster Raving Loony Party at that age!)

I missed most of your programme, Sean, but the bit I did see convinced me of what I had suspected all along - that far from making a serious programme about money saving, the TV company decided to go for lots of close-ups of people nearly in tears, having rows, etc. Well, anyone would have a row and end up in tears with that lot around the house, I bet.

I hope you save some money, and even if you don't "pay off your mortgage" in the time, even a few thousand off it has got to be good! Best of luck.

This is a standard TV method though. It's not real life.

Re Duncan the ballet dancer: I saw an advert in The Stage newspaper this week, it was Urban Activities advertising for people who wanted to be taught how to do Indian head massage and tour pubs and clubs offering the service to customers. So he's showing signs of putting real effort in to this project. I reckon, if he gets enough people on board and manages it well, it's a promising project too. Quite a big, snazzy ad, looked very professional.
Mind you, I seem to remember the words 'cash in hand' mentioned, so maybe he hasn't realised that the tax man watches telly!
