I hated renting back in the early 90's. landlords that can call in and "inspect" your home, being told what you can and cant do in your "home" Lets face it renting is a second class lifestyle for those that must
I am an adviser and I can tell u many "home owners" have second class lifestyles if the truth be known.........House mortgaged to the hilt, interest only mortgage, no insurances, credit cards maxed, leased cars, leather suites (pay in 2012) etc,0 -
Not much security in having gangs of chavs running around your estate lobbing empty cans of Frosty Jack cider at your "home" or having to run the gauntlet of burbury clad pitbull owners if you want to pop out for a pint of milk. Although I suspect (like everyone in corpy housing) you live on a "nice estate

Actually I live in a tiny village in fabulous scenery where we can leave doors open and neighbours look after each other. We're also much better mannered than you are.0 -

At the end of the day, no-one is a home owner till they've made the last payment.Fokking Fokk!0 -
I own my house outright have now paid off the mortgage ,the house is now rented out and provides me with an income ,which is giving me a great lifestyle living on a narrow boat and enjoying early retirement cruising the canals and rivers ,I would not have been able to do this if I had lived in rental so for me it would have been dead money.0

sounds loverly
Dont suppose you cruise the liverpool-leeds canal? From what I see, dead dogs and floating sanitary protection products, cruising public toilets would be safer.0 -
Huddersfield Narrow Canal would be my tip
Owning a canal boat is a bit of a dream of mine too.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

You've paid off your house and you're putting it to 'use'. That's fine, good luck to you.
However, there are others who buy a house as a home, and others who don't care about ownership, they are happy to rent (as long as they have a reasonable length of tenure) as long as they have somewhere to live. No-ones view is 'right' or 'wrong' when it comes down to it.Fokking Fokk!0 -

I agree with you 100% there are no right or wrongs here ,the biggest problem is the lack of social housing if more of this was available then maybe this housing bubble would not have happened and we would not find ourselves in the mess we are in .0 -
