    That is all.

That depends on your point of view.

Why are so many people on mainland Europe happy to rent? They don't feel hard done by.

Money spent buying a depreciating asset is dead money.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)
  • for me,yes it is dead money, but for others who may not be as frustrated with renting as i am, or are happy doing so, then maybe it is not dead money. it is up to the individual really, but i welcome your opinion,op!

Nope. A house is not an asset--it's HOME. Its where you LIVE. If you rent a council house you have security of tenure, if the floods come in or the roof flies off then they fix it... if you lose your job then you have help with your rent. Peace of mind v figures on paper. Depends which you want most. I would never ever buy a house .

Not much security in having gangs of chavs running around your estate lobbing empty cans of Frosty Jack cider at your "home" or having to run the gauntlet of burbury clad pitbull owners if you want to pop out for a pint of milk. Although I suspect (like everyone in corpy housing) you live on a "nice estate".
  • I disagree however...

... inheritance tax is dead money.

There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.
  • Having tried both, I would rather pay my own mortgage than someone else's.
