Well it is a long shot but if it is an item that only Currys sell then there is an outside possibility that they can tell how old it is from the model number etc.
If it isn't a Curry's branded item then I can't see what you can do here without some proof of purchase as you could have bought it from anywhere.
Alternatively try the manufacturer and see if they can help.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Usually Currys take a customers details when they buy dvd players etc. Can your friend take it back with you and ask them to check their system and they will be able to print you out a receipt. When I was a sa at Currys I would do this for a customer.0

they said no names are taken for small items0

Simple. Buy a new one exactly the same (in Currys). Then take the old, faulty one back using the new receipt for a refund.0

Buy a new one.
Take the faulty one back with the new receipt and demand a refund.
Let the onslaught begin........0 -

Hi Jamo,
If your friend bought the item on its own using a credit or debit card, then that may be sufficient proof of purchase.
You have a right to a replacement or refund and do not need a receipt for this, as the goods are faulty. Your (friend's) contract is with the shop the item was purchased from, not the manufacturer.
You do not have to accept a replacement if you don't want it, and neither do you have to accept a credit note or vouchers, however I believe the store has the option to repay in the same manner as the goods were originally paid for, so if by card they may be entitled to refund to the original card...not sure about that point in particular.
In short, you have a right to a refund or replacement, and do not need a receipt, as the goods are faulty. If the shop insists, ask to speak to a manager and also ask for written proof that this is company policy....!!!
All the best,
Eph.If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

A similar thing happened to me two years ago when I bought my parents a DVD player. I had no receipt but was able to identify when I bought it and Currys exchanged it for me. Could you ask your friend to try something similar?Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0
