Hi Jamo,
If your friend bought the item on its own using a credit or debit card, then that may be sufficient proof of purchase.
You have a right to a replacement or refund and do not need a receipt for this, as the goods are faulty. Your (friend's) contract is with the shop the item was purchased from, not the manufacturer.
You do not have to accept a replacement if you don't want it, and neither do you have to accept a credit note or vouchers, however I believe the store has the option to repay in the same manner as the goods were originally paid for, so if by card they may be entitled to refund to the original card...not sure about that point in particular.
In short, you have a right to a refund or replacement, and do not need a receipt, as the goods are faulty. If the shop insists, ask to speak to a manager and also ask for written proof that this is company policy....!!!
All the best,
Eph.0 -
Legally, what is needed is some kind of proof of purchase. See if the box or instruction manual say Curry's anywhere. Or contact the manufacturer and see if they can confirm from the serial number that it was sold by Curry's.0

But would that prove that the OP (or her friend) actually purchased it?Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

What make is it? Is it a currys own brand?0

if she can roughly think of when it was bought ie date and rough time then they will be able to locate the transactoin0

I agree - life is too short to argue over a faulty product and lost receipt.
Buy a new one and take the old one back with the receipt you get. (Providing they are still selling the item?)
The only problem is that you'll still be without a receipt for your new one, but there's not much that you can do about that."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
hi all its a philps and cos it has no tv tuner there is no need to contact TV licensing0

How long ago did she buy it, there's a chance she could still be on the shops cctv system - ask them to have a look. If they flat out refuse tell them they have to under the data protection act (they can charge you up to £10 though)0

You need to be able to prove the purchase - not necessarily the receipt. Witness evidence may well be sufficient if push comes to shove.
If it is fault, push it - Currys always cave at head office level.0
