I agree Jacs, but I'm sure you more than make up for any lack of family support.

I feel it at Christmas, when my kids only get the presents me and DH buy them. I sort of feel I have to buy more to make up for it :o

DH and I havent had a night out alone together for around 10 years, we never leave our kids with anyone and I sometimes wonder whether....whats the right way of wording it.....they should be close to other adults apart from their mum and dad

No - is the simple answer......if they are happy then what is the point of other people;)

what about their friends parents or your friends? I know what you mean though sometimes my best mates daughter (who I always think of as my niece anyway) comes to me rather than her mum as she finds somethings are easier to talk to me about although her mum would be fine about them anyway!

Oh, we had family when we got married. We had a 'his side' and 'my side'. The only photo from our wedding where any of the people are still around is the friends

Not sure I have any wedding photos left.....apart from the fact I look seriously stupid, I used to rip one up every time we had a row.:rotfl:

Our close friend have all emigrated to various places Skinty. They do see friends parents, and the adults at school of course, but no family

I think parenting makes or breaks friendships tbh....I 'drifted' away from a couple of friends who tried to force their parenting style on me.....(I am sure wearing odd socks never really had any effect on my kids mental health!)

One 'friend' who scared me to death cos she talked dead posh and had lovely manners became my best mate......cos she is seriously nuts.....:rotfl:

luckily noones tried to force their mad ways on me yet! there was a single dad I got quite friendly with though but I didn't like the way he spoke to his kids so really put me off him - used to threaten to hit them and seemed to think this was ok. I decided he was a big bully - don't think he did actually hit them but the threatening was a bit much.
