Tinned salmon

  • Hi all, I have been given 3 large tins of red salmon. Any ideas what I can do with it - bearing in mind no-one in the family likes it! My previous experience of tinned salmon was having it in sandwiches at Grans house on a Sunday many years ago, and I always remember trying to get the ham sandwiches instead.

I was wondering if I could mix it with other fish and put it in fish pie or something? I dont really want to bin it as suggested by OH.

    Fishcakes?

Mix with equal amounts of mashed potato and seasoning to your taste( parsley or dill , some onion possibly, or a bit more radical would be to add some oriental spices and chopped spring onion), shape and either flour and fry or crumb them and fry.

But I love tinned red salmon, esp in sandwiches!

    Send it to me !!:D

Seriously i love the sound of the fishcakes that mrs Chip suggested, i too can remember having salmon sandwiches at nans when i was small. Think that it was Grandad that used to sprinkle vinegar all over it

I love it mixed up with mayo and lots of black pepper and can just eat it like that and not stop until its all gone:D

You could also try it in pasta ie tuna pasta bake only made with the salmon instead of tuna.

  • I do slightly different fishcakes - mush your tinned salmon up with one egg (to bind), some chopped spring onion, and as much ground ginger as you can stand (I'm a ginger fiend!). Form into patties and fry until outside is golden and crispy - they have a nice spicy "bite" accompanied with a bit of salad and maybe plain mayo.

I love tinned salmon in a fish pie, I mix it with cod, loads of peas and sauce. I'm sure there's a thread here about tinned salmon, will be back if I find it :)

    Here it is

My mum used to make a very tasty fish pie for 4 of us with the tiny size tin of salmon (pink cos it was cheaper).

Flake it into the bottom of an ovenproof dish or indvidual dishes. Cover with parsley sauce and top with buttery mash and brown in the oven for a little while. Lovely!
  • Flaked into pasta just as you might do with tinned tuna - add a bit of chilli or chilli sauce to add dimension. Added on top of a baked potato with some cheese melted onto it? Or give it to someone who enjoys it.
Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!

I love tinned salmon with vinegar! My grandma used to give it to me as a kid and I still love it.

I realise I've been absoultely no help whatsoever! haha

    Fish cakes sound yummy though!

you can also do salmon pate, salmon mousse - any recipe that calls for cooked salmon!
I actually love salmon sandwiches, mashed up salmon, a few slices of cucumber, a dash of vinegar and a sprinkle of salt and WHITE pepper - Whats not to like?
oh, and the vinegar HAS to be good old brown Sarsons! none of that poncy white wine stuff!

It goes very well in quiches.

I agree with the majority on this thread though, eat it in sandwiches, fish pie or fish cakes.
