Welcome to the madhouse
If you want to join me in the debt-free by 30 challenge then go ahead! Ooh, do you think I could make it a proper challenge on the DFW board? That might be fun - get some other folk involved...?
Anyone else up for a wee challenge?0 -
Go for it FF - I'm sure there are loads of under 30's wishing to debt free before 30
For me I was 30 years and 8 months old when I became DF.

The Debt-Free By 30/40/50 etc Challenge (I didn't want to be mean to those already over 30 :rotfl:) is now active on the DFW board. Clicky clicky
I'm a little scared - I've never started a challenge before  I do spend enough time on these boards to keep up with it though
Happy Easter to all!0 -

your new challenge looks great! good luck with it - i'm sure you can do it
i'm currently debating the pros and cons of spending some/most of our savings on adding an extra room to our house (garage conversion). it would be useful for two reasons:
1. we don't have a "spare" room for any guests to sleep in when they visit. we don't have many people wanting to stay, in fairness, but when my mum or dad come over, it's from the US so by lovely necessity they are here for a week or two and need a bed. this would be a sofa bed if we do the new room.
2. although we have a huge lounge/dining room (one big room), now that the boys are getting a bit older it would be great to have an extra space for them to play/entertain friends/dump their toys. they both have a bedroom, but DS2's in particular is teeny weeny (box room). fast forwarding a bit to when they are wishing to bring home girlfriends etc, i don't want their only space for entertaining away from our watchful eyes in the lounge to be their bedroom for obvious reasons (god i feel like my mum thinking such thoughts!)
i think (although i don't know for sure until we receive the quotes) that we will have enough saved to do more or less what we want to do. we aren't willing to borrow any money, so if we can't afford it - it won't get done. but i'm a bit worried about spending my savings and then having **nothing saved until we build it back up (which would be at the rate of 200-300 per month). but the longer we leave it, the less benefit we'll get from it when we finally do it, if you know what i mean!
any thoughts? thanks xxMortgage free as of 11/11/15 !
:Anow... to start some serious saving :A

Hi Tomtom. The extra room sounds like it will be well utilised. It would probably be a plan to do it when it you've got enough saved so it won't wipe you out completely. I am aiming to have a saving buffer so i'm not in a state of panic when a disaster hits! One step at a time0

I have tickets to see Dylan Moran :j :j :j :j :j
And I saved £11.95 by using my bus pass to go to the Box Office. Take that Ticketmaster0 -

Why not decide how much in savings is your ideal "buffer" to start with.
So, I never have savings so £500 would make me happy at the moment. I have £400ish, so I'm going to keep plodding away and when I have £500 I will be able to breath a sigh of relief. I am planning on saving into my account until I have the 6k+ needed to pay off my loan, but won't pay it off until there is at least £500 on top of that. Does that make sense??
If your ideal amount of emergency savings is £1500, but you need £10,000 to add your extra room (I live in a flat, I have no idea how much it might cost :rotfl:) then save till you have £11,500 and that way there is also a contingency fund which you might need when getting work done...that nice Kevin man on Grand Designs always says you should have one of them and I wouldn't [strike]kick him out of bed[/strike] argue with his knowledge
Above all, do what is right for you and your family without compromising on your peace of mind.
