Kira (see avvy :) ) is a GSD/BC cross - rescued from RSPCA and she sounds just like your dog... she IS gradually improving but it's taken a lot of time and a LOT of work including using a very reputable trainer to help us. A more people loving dog your couldn't wish for but other dogs? mmmm no...

My advice is to go to training classes and if need be go to a specialist dog trainer. Because of where I live I use Lynne Davies (from Dog Borstal) and her training methods match my own views so we're making progress. It's not miracles but consistant training that will make a difference and eventually you will see her attitude to other dogs change. Until then keep her on the leash if there is the SLIGHTEST chance of other dogs being around. Not only for her safety but theirs and any people naive enough to try and seperate 2 fighting dogs SHOULD she start a fight... Last thing you want is someone with bite wounds!
ohhhhhhhhhhh can she get me Mic's number? lmao

My scottie is the same, thats why he is always on a lead. Lost count of the amount of owners Ive had to shout at to recall their off lead dogs because my on lead Scottie will bite if they come bounding up to us.

LOL we have private sessions and you don't even wanna know what they cost - and we're starting group sessions at her place but that's not with her, that's with her trainers in groups - my vet takes her dog there every weekend too :)
She is very sensible though and it's money well spent :)

  • hi, my dog was recently attacked by a pitbul that was off its lead and out of control in a park where children were playing, the pitbul has been siezed by the police and the blood test have proven it is a definate pitbul, the owner has admitted fault and has to appear in court regarding getting his dog back, which i think is unbelievable, the dog should be put down in my opinion. The pitbul caused serious damge to my dog resulting in a £700 vets bill, how do i go about getting my money back from the owner?? and also taking the case further if the owner does get his dogs back??
    Would appretiate any advice.

Her ear seems fine, she has big floppy ears, every time she shook her head we had a blood bath! I have cleaned it and put a pressure dressing on it for a couple of hours which she has just managed to remove, but it has stopped bleeding and looks ok.

Ears bleed a lot when they are injured and it usually looks worse than it is.

I would also second the reccomendation for the Brenda Aloff book. It is really interesting and gives some good insights into the nuances of body language in dogs.

Yep - the ones with no control at all of their dogs who don't recall them when I tell them "look this guy's a relatively recent rescue and I've no guarantee yet of how he'll react so he's staying on lead"... grrr.

Firstly, I'm very sorry to hear about your dog, I hope there is some way you can get the money for the vets bill from the other owner, hopefully someone can advise you what to do about this.

But what on earth has the fact that there were children near by got to do with anything? Just because a dog fights other dogs doesn't mean it will fight children, my dog for example would love to kill squirrels and cats of she was fast enough, but that doesn't mean she would kill children. Dogs can tell the difference between humans and other dogs, you know. And why on earth should the dog be put down? To punish it? Or to punish the owners? I meet quite a few aggressive dogs regularly when I walk my dog, this causes no problems because the owners have them on leads. If the owners will always keep the dog on a lead and maybe muzzled if it goes for other dogs, I don't see what the problem is, no other dogs will be hurt.
