Debt Relief Orders (DRO) - Information & help thread

I recently opened up a Natwest current account prior to DRO (I have no debt with Natwest) then when decided to apply for DRO I opened up a Co-op Cashminder. Does anyone have a Natwest account and not have it closed by then after DRO? .
If your Nat West account is in credit it will not be listed in the DRO application.
If you have no other debts to Natwest/RBS then Nat West will not know you have a DRO and your account will not be affected.0 -

Hi, The ref No is the number they gave me so I guess its like my case No, a bit like NI No I guess.
Yes they told me to tell my debtors that ref No and what I was doing and hopefully they would give a little time with no calls until sorted.0 -
Fatbelly: do you recommend that I answer and tell them that I am in the process of applying for a DRO ??
Don't tell them as they will only get heavier.0 -

Actually i recommend that you don't answer phone calls from them.
Let your DRO be a nice surprise from the Insolvency Service to them.0 -
Hi everyone, brief history ive been on dmp since 2006 and have reduced my debt from £18,000 to just over £7000 but due to a couple of things (having a baby, job cut etc) im struggling to now meet payment of the dmp. I will be paying if off for at least another 5 and a half years. Now i have been looking into a debt relief order to see whether it would be suitable for me. I have been discussing it with my other half but he said what if we wanted to get a mortgage in 6 or so years, if i have a debt relief order i cant get one but if i still have 5 and half years of a dmp then i couldnt get one either?
Hope you can help

on a side note you could try the cccs even if it is just for advice.0

I have a DRO but I'm moving shortly in with my other half, how will that affect the DRO? Do they look at his wage, half all the bills I put on the SOA etc
If I put say £400 down as rent will they think the rent is £800, with they ask for evidence etc
What are the allowances for a couple? I don't want to get to July and find I'm needing to go BR.0 -

Thank you for your advice, no debts to Natwest or RBS so great can go ahead and get things paid into it now.0 -

When I applied for my DRO i put my partners contribution towards the bills so I put down the whole rent that was payable along with all the other bills. I would suggest doing another DRO with what all the outgoings are going to be and then how much your partner will be contributing to check whether it would bring you over the £50 surplus. Don't forget that gas, electric, housekeeping etc may increase with two of you instead of just yourself.
Can't really help on the amounts as I've got a child so amounts I spend are different. However if you do a SOA you could always post it as a thread and others may then offer advice.
I would also maybe suggest speaking to the organisation who helped you apply for the DRO to check whether the IS need to notified of the change you could then double check with them whether how your SOA should be etc.
Alternatively you could ask a question on the 'ask CCCS a question' thread.
Hope this helps alittle.0 -
After reading this thread I felt a DRO was the way for me, up until a few weeks ago I didn't even know what a DRO WAS! Thank you!
I took advice from this thread and opened a NatWest Step account. Today I have phones CCCS for the first time and they took details and someone is calling me back tomorrow. I did ask if the NatWest account would be safe and they said it would and they would have advised me to open one anyway.
I feel now the ball is rolling a little weight has lifted, I am getting calls day and night and feel ill with it all! CCCS gave me a ref No to give them so hopefully they will leave me alone for a while.
So looking forward to this all coming to an end.
Thank you so much for this thread!
Glad you found the thread useful, after reading all the pages I then decided a DRO was the right decision for me.
I gave my creditors my CCCS reference in the hope of them leaving me alone, some did, some didn't so in the end I went into my online accounts and where I could I changed my contact numbers. However my DRO was approved just over week ago and the calls have now stopped as of yesterday.
Good luck with the DRO and any help you need just ask.0
