Thank you :A
Sounds like Ive got nearly everything. I will check the two credit reports to see if they give the same reference number. Ill also do an up to date list of the debts so its clear whats to be included.:j0 -
Does the official receiver look at all your statements and purchases? Im a bit concerned as my family recently gave us £300 for some new bedroom furniture (ours was damaged by damp) will the OR look at those purchases and say the many should have gone to the people we owe money to?
Also we got a deposit back from an old rental property amounting to £900 which we paid straight back to a family member because they helped us move into our currrent property. Will they also question that transaction?
Im worried our DROs will be declined for not being sensible enough with our money.0 -
I know you are not supposed to favour any particular creditors, how long ago was the repayment?:j0

We borrowed the money in september and gave it back in november. It was a family member who paid the deposit on our new flat because our landlord sold the flat where we were living. They couldnt afford to lend it us which is why we had to give it back straight away.0 -
I cant see that being a problem. Wwho are you doing the DRO through?CCCS, CAB? they should be able to give a more definite answer. Im sure it will be fine and remember the old saying dont ask dont get so no harm in applying.:j0

Hiya,
First of all, thank you everyone for all the brilliant advice on here, re the Debt Relief Order process.
I called the National Debtline last night, after working out all of my debts...
*snip*
...Anyone gone for a DRO with a similar past to mine?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Sorry to sitter on. Feels good to offload a bit to be honest!
Thanks,

Leigh,
I just wanted to offer you some support here as i can somewhat relate to your position. I am having to undertake a debt relief order also because of mental health problems and what you could call an addiction. Not alcoholism but an eating disorder which has caused me to spend excessive amounts on food, i also suffer from depression like you do. I am in the same situation where i feel guilty for getting in to such a mess, and also because i still struggle. Like you i worried about the clause that refers to not continuing to engaging in reckless spending but i think things differ when illness comes into the mix, as it is far more complicated than just cutting credit cards up etc, the CAB know i am still far from completely recovered but things are gradually changing,
Hang in there. I know how horrible it makes you feel about yourself which is course a viscous circle because your way of coping with stress is what got you into this position in the first place. You are doing great by staying sober and should be proud of yourself, truly.
Let us know what happens along the line and if you are able to get the DRO. I do hope it will be possible for you.
Just wanted to tell you that you aren't alone in feeling like this.

Hi I just wanted to say that I have successfully applied for my DRO via Baines and Ernst. It was all done over the phone, James for B+E was very helpful and sympathetic, I had very little to do other than get my credit report and pay the £90, there was no checking up or face to face meetings. It has taken about three weeks in total from start to finish due to waiting for the credit report to come through the post, and was not as scarey or as stressful as I thought it might be. If you are toying whether this is the right way to go like I did, then let me tell you it is a huge relief and weight off my shoulders now I have done it. Good luck to anyone in a similar situation0
