Hey - not fair. I didn't know there'd be a test at the end.neverdespairgirl wrote: »I can't remember, did that episode show Call Night at Middle Temple? That's my Inn.
I didn't notice.
Just think, if your dad had owned a whelk stall, your life would have been completely differentneverdespairgirl wrote: »I don't know, really. It helped for me that my father was a barrister, two of my godparents were solicitors, and therefore I knew what it was all about.

You'd have noticed Call Night, I think - massive hall, lots of people dressed up, and "I call you to the degree of the Utter Bar" being said a lot....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

there is a difference between immigrants and asylum seekers.
immigrants unless they are naturalised into citizens(that takes years) do not get any benefits. asylum seekers on the other hand get benefits.
immigrants do not get social housing.
the folk u r talking about are perhaps asylum seekers . i agree with u about them getting too much, this is where the policy has to change.
The government should think twice about letting asylum seekers in and concentrate on supporting those that have paid into the system! That will help us a bit with the coming recessions surely![/quote]
In addition to that, asylum seekers are actually BANNED from working under the rules. I imagine that many of them would rather work. Bear in mind that those who are seeking asylum sometimes have desirable skills that are needed here (medical in particular). However, it's probably easier for the media to pander to the baying masses who may still be able to afford to buy their (alleged) newspapers.0 -

Which course are you starting with? W100 (W150 if in Scotland) starts in Feb with the first TMA due in on the 27th Feb.
Are you doing Y166 to start off with?We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
I think there was some of that. Some annoying bint leaping up and down in a gown/wig saying "I'm a barrister! I'm a barrister" for the cameras. She wasn't dignified.neverdespairgirl wrote: »You'd have noticed Call Night, I think - massive hall, lots of people dressed up, and "I call you to the degree of the Utter Bar" being said a lot.0 -
How can somebody start with W100 when you need a degree before you do that. Or did I misread the OP, I thought the OP has no degree and is now starting from scratch to go "from start to barrister".Which course are you starting with? Lol, you gave me a bit of a wobbly there in the process! I went all hot and bothered and blushed red from heat to foot in embarassment that I had got it wrong.
Then I blushed again when I realised I had to point out that you was wrong.....

It's rare. Savour it.Then I blushed again when I realised I had to point out that you was wrong.....
Some websites work in reverse to my brain, I can never find what I want on the OU websites, so always search it using google. Thing was I just accepted the information that was plonked in the middle of the page, without looking round the edges ...
I won't be wrong again this year at least. I've got my "one mistake per year" over and done with! That probably means I can safely undertake a job interview now without mentioning pants
(Yes, I really did do that)0
