sorry i must of missed the question-yes i am intending..well going to give a damn good attempt at becoming a barrister, although i no how bloody long this whole things take and thats the only things i dislike about it,it was something i was going to do before i had my son,but they he popped up,so ive been re-looking into starting it for the past year and have got all the information i need about everything and anything about it now,so im very well prepared,as if im going to do it i dont want to do it by half and then give up! im going to make sure i do it properly and finish it even if it kills me !!

i have a gas meter which to put on for 4 hours gas costs around £7.40 i worked out..and obviously i cant afford to do that every day!! ..ive contacted the gas company several times saying that somethin seems wrong with the meter, sometimes it charges me for things i havnt done for example..but they REFUSE to send someone out and say unless it completly brakes down, its not there "policy" to send people out to things that seem slightly "irrelevant"....shame its not irrelevant to me eh??
being cold is one of the worst things i think compared to everything else, especially which a little boy,but cause the damp is so bad in the house and has been according to the neighbours for over 10 years,no ammount of heating changes anything anyway! so ive got blankets all over the sofa, and most of the time have to bring my quilt down too..i was actually really grateful when a family friend bought me a very very thick black velour dressing gown for xmas as it is very warm and has made a diffrence to me feeling the cold thankfully, best xmas gift ive ever had in terms of things needed!! lol
I wouldn't normally post something like this but it sounds like the meter is overdue to acquire a more serious fault.0 -

No, you're thinking of insurance.
The point of tax is to raise the money required to spend on the things mandated by the people we elect. There's no individual correlation between paying the tax and getting the service, that's why you don't get a rebate for sending your kids to private school, or getting an operation from BUPA. Equally, millionaires don't get extra services even though they pay more tax.Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!0 -

fair enough,my mistake,i just think of insurance and tax as going hand in hand and either way,ive paid both!Having a coke with youis even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irun, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne

Not national insurance. National insurance is tax, it's just got a silly name.
I mean insurance like your teeth falling out, your cat getting sick, your car being stolen, or your house burning down. Getting the benefits from them is related to what you pay. Tax (including national insurance) isn't.
Except things like SERPS and married woman's stamp, I suppose, but they're a fringe issue here.Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!0 -

Although people don't have the right to directly reclaim the tax they have paid they are certainly entitled to the safety net provided by the tax payer via the welfare state.
It's fair for someone to suggest that they are entitled to benefits if they are in position where they need them. We collect tax, in part, to pay for those that need help, I'm very much aware of how much I pay in and would feel hard done by if someone suggested I was getting free money if I became disabled or couldn't work. I would make the point that the OP made, I paid into a system that provides welfare, I am entitled to that very same welfare.0
