good to hear that everyone is staying strong. have had a difficult w/e and having a cig has played heavy on my mind, particularly last night. however, i resisted the urge and woke up with a better mind set today. took the dog out for a very long walk this am and have spent the rest of the day keeping myself busy with domestic drudgery. Its all very weird this giving up. Its not like I want a cigarette and i would feel terrible if i had one, its the psychological need to have a cig. Anyways, its certainly not as bad as the first few weeks and it is much easier to bat off the cravings. To those that are struggling it does get easier to manage the cravings and the time spent thinking about having a cig does lessen. I just keep telling myself that there is everything to gain from not smoking.
    Keep strong.

Off to the doctors tomorrow to request help with stopping smoking, I have failed miserably with patches in the past. They just kept falling off! The only place I managed to stick them where they stayed put was under my bra, then had a reaction to the sticky stuff and ended up looking like I had 3 boobs!!!!!

So I'm going to try and persuade the doctor to prescribe Champix. Has anyone had success with this? Has anyone got any advice about how to get the doctor to prescribe it? I was gonna buy it from the net, but decided it must be better to do it under the doctor and being monitored due to the adverse reactions that some people have had.

Although, I'm in a bit of a sticky situation, I had made the appointment with her, then got a letter through from the surgery to make an appointment for the results of a brain scan, so if I get caught up discussing that, I know I will forget to ask about the champix. AAAAAAAAAARGH

K will check back in morning b4 i go to doctors and read any advice you guys can give.

    Thnx

Well last cigarette smoked at about 8pm. I'm now a non smoker. Going to do some reminder cards for the wallet etc from the Allen Carr book. Feeling positive and feeling free - bring it on nicotine monster!!

Hi everyone, good to see some better vibes with many of you, well done.

All the best with your pact for Tuesday Mimi! Though instead of thinking the hardest part will be facing up to the fact that you'll NEVER have another one after that, start to look at it, or try to, in a joyful way and look ahead to feeling so very much better as well as easing your OH's mind. Get yourself another step closer to not being at such a risk of strokes which is what you feared. Keep it all in mind and move ahead!

Thanks Heavens you bought the Kalms whathavewedone! However many you need to take, it's far better than your other concoction! All the best with step 2!

No wonder you were like you were Stroppy! You should have said so we knew how to help more. Don't worry about using the inhalator, as you say, it's far better than stepping right back and doing the REAL thing!!! To help find the "silkquit meter" go to "Start" and look for "Search", put silk quit in and your PC will search it out. If you get the chance to download things to your deshtop in future it's far easier. Keep on keeping strong Stroppy!

Very well done for resisting all temptations Helen!!! Keep hold of the way you felt when you got up yesterday morning and knew you'd overcome the bad evening. Don't forget plenty of water, it'll help ward off headaches too. Keep very strong!

Fantastic news Tisme!!!! :T Congratulations to both you and your OH!!! :T That first week is such a great achievement and will make you both stronger and far more able to resist any "evil thoughts". Keep up that wonderful strength!

Great news about keeping firm to your resolve maccababe, 33 days is marvellous!!! You did very well in resisting all temptations, it paid obviously off in how you felt today - the monster on your shoulder was knocked off pnce again! Keep up your sentence of "I just keep telling myself that there is everything to gain from not smoking!" The perfect way to look at it. It's good to hear that you at least have been out today, not sure about the others!!!

Hi mazza111 and welcome to the board, at least I don't recall you being here before?! I don't know how you'll get on with your Dr and getting Champix on prescription, but certainly it's worth trying. Far better to ask her what her thought are re your health and the drug anyway! To ensure you ask her, write "Champix" on your hand, hopefully the fact that you've written it down will jog your memory. A lot of our quitters have had great success with it, but some need to stop using it due to side effects, but we're all individuals and it's far better to start it being open-minded and positive and see what happens. I'd be dubious of buying it over the net as you hear all sorts of stories re pharmecuricals and the net, so beware!

If you're unable to use patches or Champix, then how about an inhalator or going cold turkey? The latter (to my mind) seems to net quicker results as you're not putting nicotine into your body, and you'll be free from it completely after 3 days. Any problems from there on are purely psycological. However you do it don't forget where here as a 'sounding board' and will support you all the way. All the best with the results of the brain scan.

I was quite surprised to see you succumbed on going out Jon, but good luck from now onwards. If necessary, keep away from drinking for at least the 1st week as the longer you've quit for it's harder to go back and then smoke again as thoughts of going all through it once more weigh hard - and are!

All the best for a wonderful week everyone, get out in the good weather as much as you can. Breathe deeply and 'see' those lungs turning pink - rather than black!!! You CAN all do it!!!

  • Morning all!

Had a good night's sleep last night, may have been the Kalms, anyway, I feel good today.

On the mid strength patches now. I like the feeling that I'm weaning myself off nicotine now.

Not coughing up rubbish so often now and my sinuses feel really clear. I used to wake up sneezing every morning like I had hayfever.

Oh seems to be fine now as well. I really hope we can do this!

I am a complete idiot. I have struggled all weekend following my Friday nightmare, last night I slep very badly waking up every 2 hours or so, thinking about cigs and this morning couldn't bear it and had a ciggie, ha ha felt sick and dizzy.

My problem is I have forgotten to be happy that I am not smoking and have become a bit depressed.

I am still determined to stop. I telephoned the practice nurse on Friday and she is going to ring me today, perhaps I need a bit more support. OH is doing so well that it is starting to annoy me  .

Have got terrible headache and backache this morning from the bad night.

I need to re-group I think, don't want to end up smelling again.:rotfl:

Do NOT buy Champix via the internet. This can be dangerous and you need to be monitored.

  • Hi all,

The weekend was very hard for me. The cravings are becoming less often but when it hits me it seems worse than day 1.

My oldest son did tell me yesterday that I smell so much nicer than before!

But I was talking to my 5 year old daughter about it this morning and I was saying that it has been nearly a week since I last smoked and she said that it was really good and when I get to it being a week without smoking I should have a ciggerette as a treat for doing so well! ( I did try hard not to laugh!)

I hope everyone has a good day.
