Well that is me and DH at 44 hours now :A Feeling good did 30 minutes exercise today 20 minutes on the exercise bike and 10 minutes of a mixture of sit ups and arm exercises :T Feelin great! I must admit though the morning coffee fag and after supper fag are sorely missed
I do think though that my saving grace is the patches with the nicotine gum when I feel the cravings getting stronger - I have had 3 pieces of gum today so far.
I hope everyone is coping, just think for those of us who stopped 1st January and had a 20 a day habit we must be £10 better off already!:j0 -
Hi all - can I join your thread please? I'm on my 2nd day now - only had a couple of cravings, but haven't stopped eating !! Really need to give up as have some little credit cards that seemed to have rooted and grown into major credit cards and multiplied and now their multiplying !! so I need to sort them out, prioritise them, evict some and hopefully increase the payments with my "fag money". I've been doing (lurking on) the PAD thread - and reading the Daily Chat - you really are a friendly bunch - congrats to everyone else who is kicking the habit and I too can't wait to say "I packed up in 2009 and have never looked back" Happy 2009 to everyone and good luckSmoke free 01/01/09 :TPaD since 10/12/08 - Dec-£46 / Jan-£39.88CC1 Mint [strike]£1215.39[/strike] - £896.63£2 savers club #82 £4 (banked £20)0

Hi Guys,
Anyone on here quitting with Champix? I went to the docs and got the prescription. Today I collected it from the chemist but I think they haven't given me the starter pack as the instructions don't seem to tally with what I've got. I'm going back to the chemist tomorrow to see if I can talk to the pharmacist before I start.
Hi Naomim, my neighbour quit with Champix - he was raving about it on NYE - although he read the instructions wrong, thought it was a 14 day course and didn't realise it was 10-12 weeks. Just goes to show "it's all in the mind"
Good luck anywaySmoke free 01/01/09 :TPaD since 10/12/08 - Dec-£46 / Jan-£39.88CC1 Mint [strike]£1215.39[/strike] - £896.63£2 savers club #82 £4 (banked £20)0 -
Thanks Jay-Jay,
I kind of feel it's like "last chance saloon" for me. I've tried Allen Carr (books & sessions) hypnotism, patches. The only time I ever gave up successfully was when I was pregnant and 6 months after but that's a bit of a drastic step to take to make me give up again. :rotfl:

Naomi - a baby would work out more expensive too !! and it could be twins !! sorry about the exclamation marks, haven't worked out how to put in a smiley !!
I've tried the Allen Carr book (managed 3 months that time), could never justify spending all that money on patches, would rather buy a packet of fags - so going cold turkey and hopefully watch the money grow. The first week I find quite easy, the second not so and the third - well the kids better take the dog and cats off to their Grans for a while !!
I was going to try the Champix but NYE came round quicker than getting a doctors appointment and my surgery doesn't do a stop-smoking-clinic, but I've heard really good reviews about it - when is your stop day?Smoke free 01/01/09 :TPaD since 10/12/08 - Dec-£46 / Jan-£39.88CC1 Mint [strike]£1215.39[/strike] - £896.63£2 savers club #82 £4 (banked £20)0 -

Anyway, well done everyone else who is in the process of quitting (no matter which way). 2009 is going to be our year :j

I quit on champix and would really recommend it though it does have some side effects and can affect different people in different ways.
It basically blocks the nicotine receptors in your brain which means when you smoke you no longer get the "satisfaction" () that comes with it.
You start by taking small doses and gradually build up over a few days with a quit date between ten and 14 days from starting to take them.
hope that explains it a bit.. any questions then ask away:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0 -
I haven't chosen a "stop" day yet. the nurse at my practice said it's about 8 days after you start the tablets so once I've been back to the chemist to double check what they've given me, I'll sit and read through the rest of the gumph and decide then

I forget exactly how many but the starter pack should have some little white pills then build up to the big blue ones then two of the blue ones a day.
the standard pack is all blue ones.:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0 -

Hi Waspeze,
I got the starter pack today and when I was reading the instructions it says Day 1-3 take one white tablet 0.5mg. Days 4-7 take take two white tablets (one morning, one evening) 0.5mg BUT the pack I was given has all blue tablets and the pictures indicate I should take 2 a day so contradicts what the instruction leaflet says and what my practice nurse told me. It looks like they have given me the pack from day 8 onwards (light blue champix 1mg) GAAAAH
Did you have any adverse side affects? Basically I work and drive and need to be able to do both

Yep, if its all blue you have the standard pack
this will be given to you from day 15, the starter pack has fourteen days worth ..
I work and drive and have been fine with it, the side effects you may get will vary but don't mistake them for the normal side effects from giving up smoking.
Things like feeling a bit sicky, REALLY vivid (and sometimes naughty)
dreams
they also can cause bouts of depression etc.
You'll get to see your nurse regularly so if you experience anything that you find hard to handle then discuss it with her/him and they'll either set your mind at ease or reduce the dosage.
I've had nothing bad happen to me but I have heard of some negative reactions... despite this I will always sing it's praises as without it I honestly don't think i'd have been able to give up (i'd tried most other things):hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0
